Almost embarrassed to ask, as a former long time AP holder who knew all of the ins and outs, now in exile in TX, headed back to the parks in July, are RSR racers fast passes still gone in the first hour, basically if you're not in line at opening than it's standby line only right?

How busy should we expect mid week in July to be? not as bad as holiday weeks i hope? thx

Ten days ago, though admittedly not quite in the crazy crowds of summer, I had to wait until 11:00a to get RSR FPs for around dusk--7:35p to 8:35p as I recall. This was on a day when the park opened a 7:00a AM EMH (not that the EMH matters much). This means that RSR FPs lasted at least 3 hours that day.

When I went the first three days before July 4th in 2013, the FPs for RSR were gone in about an hour (we were some of the last ones to get it. They immediately closed the line off at around 9:05 a.m.). From what I've read about what it's like now, sometimes it depends, but it seems the FPs are still available for a bit longer now that another year has gone by. I'm thinking something like 2-3 hours after opening.

As for the crowds, well, it was manageable but definitely packed. I'd say a 7.5/10 since it wasn't necessarily the day of a holiday but the few days before. We kept to SR lines, FPs, and just weaved through rides that had 30 minutes or less wait times (though there were one or two rides where we waited much longer than that--it's inevitable!), which for the most part made it easier not to have to stand in line for an hour or more. It's always good to develop a plan for what you want to do because even if it is crowded, you can avoid going into the park without knowing what you're doing.

They still go quickly but it's usually a couple hours before they are completely gone. If you go for rope drop or shortly after you should be fine.

I just got back yesterday from a Mon afternoon to Wed afternoon trip and although it was the first time I've gone during the busy summer months, and the busiest I've personally seen the parks, I thought it was still very manageable for the most part.

I didn't make any rope drops but even arriving an hour or 2 late (by 10am) most of the majors had waits less than 30 minutes until about noon, I used FP's to re-ride them later in the day when they were an hour+, and I enjoyed the secondary rides and shows in between. As an AP holder I didn't make RSR FP's a priority this trip and just ended up skipping it because even the single rider line was averaging about 45 minutes, I got on everything else I wanted multiple times though, TSMM was probably my longest wait at 45 minutes.

It was definitely different from my previous off-season trips but I think I got on just as many rides thanks to the longer hours and I still had a blast. One thing I noticed is due to the heat and early open / late close I ended up going back to my hotel after dinner just to get off my feet and enjoy the AC for an hour or 2 before heading back for the nighttime shows. I'm used to going open to close on 10am-8pm off-season days but 8am-midnight with the summer sun so exhausting I needed the break.

This was also our experience. We were there the same week. We started at DCA on Tues. and Thurs. so no EMH. But they don't let you line up for FP early like they used to and they are lasting a little longer into the morning. If I had to guess they probably lasted about 3.5 hours on those days and I would expect close to that in July.

I would still go with the status quo advice, which is the FP run out somewhere between 90-120 minutes after park opening on average. There are mornings when they last a fair amount longer, but there are also mornings when they are gone pretty quickly.

One change is that if RSR is not running, they stop distributing FPs. So if RSR does not open when the park opens, they do not open the FP machines. I found this out during Memorial Day weekend. On Thursday morning RSR didn't open until a few hours after the park. So FP distribution didn't start until late-morning, when the ride opened.

Fastpass distribution is lasting longer, partly because park hours are longer. Just remember though that the later you get your fastpass, the later your return time will be. So if you're not sure you'll still be in the park late - like if you have little kids that won't last that long - it would be better to grab your passes early to ensure you'll be around to ride. A last hour return time could also conflict with plans to view any of the shows (fireworks, first F! showing, WOC.)

We just got back this morning from our Disneyland trip and were at DCA on Tues and Thurs morning for reg park opening and had no problem getting on RSR first thing and then grabbing FP right after both morning getting a return time around noon. This was getting there for rope drop though. We usually travel to WDW during mod crowds levels so the summer crowds were a bit different to what we are used to but we did find the first couple of hours in the morning quite nice. But usually by 11am the parks were packed and pretty much stayed like that all day and night.

The news is now RSR FP's are connected and will last longer check out the RSR no longer disconnected thread, someone said they lasted until 5pm

THree words- single rider line.

Most of the time the single rider line is amazing but last week when I was there the single rider line was beyond the bridge every time I checked, much shorter than the 2+ hour stand by line but pushing a 45 minute wait.

It's a good option but can still be a long wait, I'd get a FP if possible.
