You will hear absolutely nothing in a Woods-Courtyard View room, so I'd go with that. Standard rooms face the front entrance and you occasionally will get siren noise from Katella or Disneyland Drive.

That only happened one night, but our wake up alarm at 5am would be the announcements they make for GRR to get it started/set up. The announcements are loud and echo off Grizzly Peak and back onto the hotel exterior. We normally wake up at 5:30am-5:45am anyway so that wasn't too big of a deal but I think I was just surprised that the Woods/Courtyard view rooms were not as quiet as you would expect.

So the "Woods" view rooms are not views of the trees in the Brisa Courtyard? They're on another side of the Grand Californian? "Woods" and "Courtyard" are two different types of room in that category?

You used to be able to call and request a higher level room and still get a discount. I haven't done that in a long time so I'm not sure that's still possible.

So the "Woods" view rooms are not views of the trees in the Brisa Courtyard? They're on another side of the Grand Californian? "Woods" and "Courtyard" are two different types of room in that category?

Yes and no. Because the trees have grown so high, what would normally have been a partial park view back 10-20 years ago is now considered part of the woods view (at least from my understanding). The view we had was definitely a view of trees, with pretty much only trees visible and sometimes people walking along the fence near GP. If we stood on the balcony and went all the way to the railing and looked left, we could see the building that houses Soarin'. I think we might have been able to see the very top of GP, but our view was mostly obstructed by trees.

When they say "Woods-Courtyard" I think you can be placed anywhere visible from the GP area on the lower floors OR the courtyard located on the interior part of the hotel. Just as Theme Park View (or actually now just partial theme park view, again because of the trees) is probably going to be more towards GSS or even on an upper floor near GP with a better view of the park above the trees.

But take that with a grain of salt, that is just my understanding from what I have read here and on their FB site and I could be off.

No, the Woods-Courtyard view is ONLY the rooms that face the interior courtyard where the monorail runs through. All those rooms are basically one large rectangle (roughly) on the interior of that courtyard.

On the Disneyland booking site, the view description of that category is "Views of Coutryard."

They don't face DtD though and are on the opposite side of the hallway. I really think they are part of Woods, that is the only category that makes sense for what you are getting. If they are standard, we got downgraded from the Woods-Courtyard view that we booked.

Yeah, if you booked Woods-Courtyard and you were on a wing out towards Soarin' rather than facing into the Brisa Courtyard, then that is not what I would expect. I'm eager to get clarity on this because the Courtyard view is what I want next time I stay there. I don't want to get assigned a room that they consider "woods view" that doesn't overlook the courtyard.

I was thinking about this more and if courtyard is important, I would definitely call in 10 days before your check-in date and request it. We had spoken with the GM at the GCH for an issue that we had with our stay, and even he said to request courtyard when booking the Woods-Courtyard because it is the more quiet area which implies, to me, that there are rooms under this category that are not in the courtyard like the one we stayed in.

The CMs have told me several times in the past that those rooms are considered Woods/Courtyard if they are below a certain floor (can't remember which) because the view is blocked due to the trees. They aren't standard and they aren't near DTD. There is a category labeled "partial view" which is supposed to be a partial view of DTD or theme park, but if the view is only trees, I'm not sure what official category best describes it.

Thanks. I'll see if I can do that. I did request adding club, and they said it will depend on whether it's available. Hopefully it is, even for part of our stay. I assume I'd still be in a standard room but have club access, like when I've requested it last minuet at DLH.
