DCA opened at 8:00 this morning. I got there at 7:00. Security opened about that time and then I stood in line at the DCA gates. The line was huge by 7:45 when they started letting us into the park.

I couldn't believe...well, I guess I could....how people were RUNNING to get in line for RSR fastpasses. By the time I WALKED (quickly) there I was about 50th in line, even though I was third in my line at the gate.

At 8:00 the line at rope drop was enormous, i couldn't see the end of it from where I was in the fp line.

I read about the rush to get fp's and get to Carsland at rope drop, but I never imagined it would be this crazy.

My husband and I arrived at DCA about 8:15am and also saw people running down buena vista street. We decided to forego the FP line and just go to standby. We stood in line just under 90 minutes and it was worth every second. While I think if you can get FP then great but if not going as early as possible to the standby might be just as good.

Crazy isn't it? That was us last week Wed. running to Carsland after our first attempt on Monday was a failure.

Glad you got to ride it, it is great fun ride

agreed--it's crazy nuts busy--we were there this past week and I couldn't believe the crowds on BV street and for the FP RSR line...
wow....

Wow, I'm glad that we changed our plans for this morning then. We originally planned to arrive by 7:15 and wait for DCA to open. But at 6:30, when we were getting ready to leave the house, we decided to go to Inglewood and watch the Space Shuttle come down the street instead. Best decision ever!!!

It was a once-in-a-lifetime thing (we made it just in time to see the shuttle go by the street right in front of us...amazing).

Hearing how bad it was at opening this morning just confirms we made the right decision to arrive at DLR later. Although we still only stayed till a little after lunch due to the extremely heavy crowds today. But least we got our Halloweentime fix :thumbsup2

Not long, maybe 15 minutes. It moves fast once they open it up. CM's are there at each kiosk making sure it goes quick as possible.

Excellent, thanks! What are the wait times like once you get into the FP line for the actual ride?

about a half hour, not too bad considering the chaos in the parks yesterday.

just be ready for craziness. during the week its not quite as bad. its just so hard to predict.

when we arrived last tuesday, we went into carsland at around 4 p.m. i think and there were lots of people, but not overwhelmingly so. we went to the single rider line and were on in about 15 minutes. so, at times the single rider line is less wait time than fp. just depends!

Were there still FPs available at 4 PM or were they gone?

We were at DCA yesterday too. We decided not to push it an early arrival after getting in later Friday evening and knew we would be back aways on RSR FPs - and we were. We arrived at security at 7:40 from Harbor side and were in the RSR FP line by 7:45. At that time the line stretched back to past Disney Jr Playhouse but not quite to the Off the Page shop in the Disney Animation building. Soon after that the line wrapped all the way back past the Disney Animation building. I could not see how far.

We got our RSR FPs at 8:19. So in all we waited about 35 minutes in the FP line. Our return window was 11:15AM-12:15PM. There have been rumors that Disney does not give out the full complement of FPs for RSR as they do for other rides. So there are even less available. Like one-half to one-third. It might have been because the ride has broken so much and they did not want the FP holders swamping it during times it is open.

To other questions asked in this thread, I do not know how long the FPs lasted but it was at least until 9AM but I think they were well gone by 10AM.

As has been well documented in other places, the RSR FP machines are not near the ride but in front of the Its Tough To Be A Bug ride.

We rode RSR around 12:30 and the wait in the FP line was pretty short. Maybe 10-15 minutes. That was compared to a consistent 90-120 minutes all day in the regular standby. I rode the SR line Friday evening at 7PM and it took a full hour.

So is it better to wait and get RSR FP in the morning like we did for 35 minutes, and then wait in the FP return line for the ride for 10-15 minutes like we did, in order to avoid the standby line? Hard to say. If we had chosen to arrive earlier at the DCA gates then maybe. Overall I think we made a good choice for us but it is not an obvious choice for others.

After we got our RSR FPs we rode Luigi's Flying Tires and then went to TSMM around 8:40 and the line was posted at 15 minutes but was actually a little over 20. So altogether we had a good morning. It is just hard to say whether getting those FPs was worth the wait. It sounds like the OP waited almost an hour for them (arrived by 7AM). Was that one hour wait for FPs worth it?

One solid advantage of FPs vs. Standby is that you can use them anytime. Which means if the ride breaks down you can come back at any time and use FP. If you are in standby and the ride breaks you have a huge dilemma if you have already committed significant time to the ride. Should you stay in line and hope they get it going again soon? Or sacrifice the hour you may have already spent and come back later and wait in line again? That is probably the best reason to gut it out and get FPs in the morning IMO.

Other RSR things of note. When I rode RSR SR line for the first time Friday evening thru SR at 7PM, the SR line was all the way out past the entrance a good bit. The CMs told everyone the SR line was a 90 minute wait from there. I was waiting for DS16 to arrive from LAX and so chose to just wait it out. And it took 60 minutes rather than 90.

Last night I got to the SR line at 10:58PM and the park closed at 11PM. I was second to last in the SR line and the lady behind me bailed after awhile so I was dead last in SR. It took about 35 minutes for me to get on the ride. The final folks in the standby line were about the same - maybe five minutes more. I could see the end of the standby line as I got to the boarding area. And when I finished the ride there was no one else in line boarding. That means standby at 10:59PM at night on a Saturday night was about 40 minutes long. For anyone thinking of using this strategy!

Realistically it probably wasn't worth waiting an hour. But it was morning, it was cool outside, I had my coffee, and I caught up on emails. REally didn't mind at all.

We come down to this area for at least two weeks at a time, so we're in the parks a lot. We don't rush anything and take our time and enjoy it. If we don't have FP's we check out the SR line, if its over 30 min we try later. We don't do the standby line ever. I love RSR but won't wait in lines over 30 or 40 min.

we were just there on 2 very busy days, sunday 9/30 and on columbus day monday 10/8. both days RSR FP were gone by 9:15 and you could barely walk in carsland most of the day, with standby on and off up to 120 min.

fortunately at dinnertime single rider was reasonable at about 35 minutes or we wouldn't have bothered.

the theming, waterfall etc of RSR is pretty cool, but considering all the hype i was pretty disappointed in the ride experience overall. as an epcot vet i don't think RSR is remotely close to TT. indy is still by far the best ride at DLR (when running...)

If we have EMH at DCA, do you suggest doing the "wide right" or just getting fast passes - that is as long as RSR is running first thing?

Hahahahahahahaha. That's a good one. Tell me more.

taking my opinion personally? :)

RSR is fun, but i would much rather ride test track any day. gives me more of a thrill - more of an out of control feeling like the limit of the car staying on the track is being pushed. don't get that with RSR. within DCA i would rather ride ToT than RSR.

then again i would rather walk back and forth in the queue at indy than ride any disney ride. i'm odd that way. last week i climbed tarzan's treehouse just to get a look over the fence at the entrance to see what they're doing.

I was there Wed-Sat and never did ride RSR. We tried for a FP Wed. morning and they were gone within an hour of park opening. We were about halfway through the line. We checked the line a few times and saw 90-150 mins. and asked at the single rider line once and were told 'over an hour'. So we said "forget it".

I've ridden Test Track and I'm sure I'll ride RSR someday but about 40 mins. is all I'd give it. But that's us. We spent almost no time in CL. The kids did the Mater ride and we looked around the land and that was it. We like the old stuff plenty still so we didn't see the need. And we've driven through the real Monument Valley plenty of times, no waiting. ;)
