DC Voting Rights - One Step further

How about when they thrust statehood on Hawaii? Now they have the largest secessionist movement in the US. They didn't ask the residents then! They just thrust statehood upon them.

When it benefits the US to have Puerto Rico as a state, they'll give it to us. Regardless of what the popular vote says.
.

That might be true as well, but if statehood was thrust upon you, then you would get the representation your requesting, until such a time though, if you want it, then the method of getting it exists, apply for statehood.

As for France and the UN, we can just agree to disagree on them.

If DC becomes a State then we can look forward to having Marion Barry as Governor.

It's your opinion, and if you choose to have it, so be it. I for one, disagree with you. I don't wish to be French... EVER. But if they do something right, I think we as a country are remiss we don't at least pay attention.

Again, it's your opinion, and it's one I also disagree with.
So you want the US to go against Puerto Ricans and force them to be a state?

I don't. I just stated reality as I perceive it. I don't see any change of Puerto Rico and its relation to the US.

If congress sees a reason to make PR a state, they'll make it. Regardless of what the people want. Right now, I'm certain that if 100% of Puerto Rican residents voted for statehood, congress wouldn't make Puerto Rico a state.

Give us independence, give us statehood, or give us equality... but stop teasing us with BS stories about liberating people when the US disenfranchises millions of its own citizens without anyone stepping in to "liberate them"

Well, get a positive vote from the people of PR. Until then your bashing congress over fiction.

Barry's days as a major political force are over. It is extremely unlikely that he could win a city-wide election again. The past mayor, Anthony Williams, and current mayor, Adrian Fenty, are well-regarded and competent leaders.

I expect little from a club who in the beginning of the colonization referred to Puerto Ricans as 'white n*****s' and who have who stated they'd never allow a state full of mullatoes.

It might have been 40-50 years since these occurrences, but they're still bitter when one lives in a land that has a longer history than those who colonized it, and that had a greater degree of autonomy than what has been granted by the country who pushes for freedom throughout the world.

I respect you, I really do. But Puerto Rico isn't your battle. I've studied this to no end, to try and make sense of the reality I was previously in, and am now once again in.

I just find it hypocritical when DC gets the vote, and might end up with representatives, while other territories don't get them. Especially when it's a country who historically has fought against imperialism, one who started out as a series of colonies. What's this we have now? It's an American empire.

Not to mention that he'd probably be looking at jail time for long term (and on-going) income tax problems were he not slated for a kidney transplant shortly.

If you believe that, can you then answer my original question? I'm not opposed to them having representation, I just don't see how it would be legal without a constitutional amendment, and from the Article, such an amendment was not proposed.

OK, so how many times does this question have to be asked. Yes, we all know that DC is NOT a state and that the constitution says that only states have voting representatives in Congress. So, the only way to accomplish this, is with a Constitutional Amendment.
