DC accommodations - which one would you choose?

I'm planning a trip to DC with my DH for late summer. My two hotel options are Embassy Suites Convention Center, and Embassy Suites Old Town Alexandria.

Which would you choose and why?

Tough choice.

Old Town Alexandria is a nice place but it is out of the city, so each night you would have to take the Metro back to that area. It's not a big deal at all, but it is a longer ride. The upside is that it is a very nice area to walk around at night and has some cool restaurants and shops.

The convention center area is definitely right near the action; however, it's not the best place for hanging out at night if that is a concern. You will still Metro back to it but it will be a much shorter ride.

As for the how each hotel differs individually in the rooms or lobby or amenities, I don't know about that.

I don't like the convention area of the city. There isn't much to do around that part of the town and it just is a bit run down.

I love Old Town so that's my vote. You can take the metro to town or take the trolley up and down King Street to walk around.

Another vote for Old Town. There's so much to do and the restaurants are fab! The metro ride is not bad at all.

My vote would be Old Town because I live in Alexandria and think its one of the most beautiful cities EVER... and recently voted the #1 most romantic city by Amazon.com....

I have stayed at the Embassy Suites Old Town Alexandria twice, and I highly recommend it. While the ride on the Metro will be a bit longer than if you stayed right in the heart of the city, the hotel is literally across the street from the King St. Metro station. It's great not to have a long hike from your hotel to the Metro station in my book!

Old Town--it is right across the street from the metro and the free trolley into Old Town. You can spend your evenings in Old Town if you want or DC and just catch the metro back to the hotel. It has a FREE breakfast which is a BIG deal in DC with the high food prices. It's a great place to stay.

Old Town, but that is because I like to get in and get out of DC as fast as possible...

Another vote for Old Town. We stayed at the Residence Inn over the holidays and it was wonderful. They have a great fitness center, decent free breakfast every morning, a Whole Foods right next door, and a 5 minute walk to the metro (it's about 20 min to D.C.). It's very safe there and there's lots of nice shops and restaurants.
