Dazed and Confused about EC ... HELP!

I keep reading that with National and EA you should expect what you reserve, however, I still don't understand something. When I made my reservation I told the girl that I had rented a full size car over the internet using some coupons and that I was new to the whole EC membership. I told her that I was confused as to why my internet reservation said that I had to go to the counter instead of directly to the EA. She said that it was because I had unsigned paperwork. Fine, I understand that and don't have a problem with that. However, she said that she re-worked my reservation and changed the car size to an intermediate because with EC you are guaranteed a full-sized car. I understand that too, but what I am reading on this board contradicts what the ressie girl told me.

So here's my question: What am I guaranteed???? Some of the people on this board say you are only guaranteed what you book, but National says that I am guaranteed the upgrade to full size

You are only guaranteed what you reserve. In your case, it would be an intermediate. However, most of the Mational employees say that it doesn't matter. It usually is the same cost, maybe a couple dollars more for the full size. That is why I always book it. This way if you have an agent having a bad day, there is no question about it. If you run into a problem, argue it with the fact that you described above. On a footnote, you can almost always (oxymoron I know) get a better deal yourself by booking on-line then by phone.

Can you sign the paperwork in advance? I was able to send in the paperwork and my EA membership was up to date without me ever stopping at the counter. Also, did you make your internet reservation by going through the EA reservations section? If you do not you are not given the option to pick up your car on the aisle.

I didn't go through the EC section on the internet when I booked that's why I called on the phone to see if they could just change it and they said sure. Unfortunately, we don't have a National office near us so I wouldn't be able to do the paper work ahead of time. That really doesn't bother me. They did change my ressie to reflect that I am an EC member. I am just confused about them telling me one thing and this board telling me another. When I booked I got a rate of 146.14 for the full size and 138 for the intermediate. Now when I am checking the rates with the same coupons the rate is $30 higher. Any suggestions on what I should do?

keep checking daily. Right now the rates are about mid stream - have seen higher and lower. You can fax the forms to EC as well.
