We are heading to Disneyworld by way of Daytona. My DD has never seen the Atlantic and thought it would be fun to go. Does anyone know a good Hotel to stay at that is right on the Beach?

There are a couple of hotels along the beach, but most of them are your "typical" beach hotels. If you don't mind spending a little extra money the Hilton Daytona Beach and the Daytona Beach Regency are nice hotels. If you don't want to spend that much money the Mayan Inn is very nice also. These hotels are right on the beach and right at the boardwalk.

http://www.daytonabahamahouse.com/ We stayed at Bahama House hotel and found it to be exactly as pictured on their web site- very clean- right on the ocean- our room had a kitchen area as well. There was an included breakfast and happy hour evenings with free drinks.

Another vote for the Hilton, we stayed there last November and we enjoyed the location and hotel very much.

The hotels and resorts closest to the board walk might be more $$. My personal opinion Daytona is not what it used to be. but for 1 night or so it should be fine. It is just more for adults.. again this is my personal opinion.
If I might suggest coming a little further south to around Cape Canaveral, you will fine some really great beaches, and more family oriented activity. You could visit the Cape, Ron Jons has a really cool resort complete with water park. I believe that the drive from that area to disney is only about 2 hours or so.

Watch out for the undertoe on this coast. I am a Florida girl ( even though I now live in Georgia just moved 3 weeks ago) and a strong swimmer I'm still very cautious in the water on this coast. Make sure you know what to do if you were to get into it, there are signs posted to help you, and make sure you are near a life guard stand. I'm not trying to worry you, just a lot of people are unaware and don't realize the danger. Again just offering a personal opinion.

The last couple of years Daytona has gone down hill. After the last hurricane that came through, things have really not come back. A couple of years ago, a huge corporation bought up all of the little hotels and now that company has gone bankrupt and now these hotels are all but in shambles. Also if you are looking to be close to Daytona but not in Daytona, try Port Orange or South Daytona. Not as run down and still right on the beach.

On a side note, if you do stay in Daytona, there is a great Taffy place on the boardwalk. It is called Zeno's!!! I fell in love with the place and now I am a part of the taffy of the month club. They make at least 40 different flavors of taffy and they aren't your typical taffy place. They also have chocolates and caramels. I HIGHLY recommend it!!!!!

My husband's family (and my husband and I) have always stayed at Perry's Ocean Edge--a family oriented hotel (they do not let spring flingers, under 18 year olds, etc., stay in a room). You get free donuts in the morning. It's a nice hotel with two outdoor pools and an indoor pool as well.

As a previous poster has said, Daytona has gone downhill over the years. And I think a lot of this is due to the hurricane and people NOT rebuilding. The last time we went for any length of time was in 2008 for our 25th wedding anniversary for a week after our week at Disney. We stopped this past April for one night while DH was on a business trip and we had to go to Melbourne and Cocoa Beach.

We prefer going to Marco Island and that is where we now go every year....but that is 3 hours from Disney.

Ya'll have made me reconsider Daytona. Perhaps Smryna or Cocoa beach. How far is Cocoa beach from Disney? :teacher:

We leave for St. Augustine tomorrow morning and we will do a day trip to Daytona, because the kids like the beach but the hotels are not as nice as they use to be. ANYWAY...I bought a groupon to Zeno's. Now I'm excited. Where are they located? Near the Hilton where those shops are?

do you think Smyrna Beach is better?:confused3

New Smyrna Beach = Shark Bite Capital of the World

To prove it, just Google "Shark Bite Capital of the World" and see what comes up.

I agree with the negative opinions regarding Daytona Beach. It is highly overrated. Better alternatives include Crescent Beach (near St. Augustine), Cocoa Beach and Canaveral National Seashore http://www.nps.gov/cana/index.htm

Maybe it would not be where I would choose to spend a week but we still really enjoyed Daytona Beach-if you are just stopping for a day or two and to see the ocean it is great. Our hotel was lovely - Bahama House. We have stayed at Cocoa Beach as well but found hotels a lot more expensive and the hotel (Hampton Inn) was nice but set back farther than the Daytona Beach one was from the ocean. As for sharks- we don't swim in the ocean- we play in the sand and walk along the shore and go in knee deep- but swim at the hotel pool.

Zenos is located closer to the pier. You have to go to the end of the boardwalk (closest to the pier) and make the right. If you go on the boardwalk from the start at the pier, it is right there. GREAT TAFFY!!!! The flavors I love are cinnimon roll, mojito and mint chocolate.

My family owns a condo on the beach in Daytona. The name of the complex is Sandpoint. If you are on facebook look up Daytona Beach shores condos..It is a great place to stay 2 bedroom 2 bathroom and it is probably cheaper then any nice hotel..Let me know if u r intersted I can give u prices

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Daytona Beach in August 2010. I thought it was nice and clean and would stay again.
