Well, we were one of the really fortunate cities whose Jonas Brothers' concert was canceled. The closest venue to us now is Daytona. I don't see how I can manage to swing this, but just for the heck of it, can someone give me advice on inexpensive (but clean and safe) hotels in the Daytona area? The upside to this is that the show is Sunday, September 5. We wouldn't miss any school or work because it's Labor Day weekend. I'm thinking we go down on Saturday morning, concert is Sunday night, and return home Monday morning. I can probably get the cheapest tickets with service charges for $150, so now I'm looking at the hotel, gas, and food.

I looked at going to the Daytona 500 in Feb and found that we could stay for alot less in St. Augustine at the Holiday Inn at the outlet center. The drive isn't that much farther. The closer I got to Daytona, the more expensive the rooms got.

I'd priceline something near the Speedway/airport. It will be a lot more expensive near the beach unless you want one of those dinky motels across A1A from the beach.

The Orlando show got canceled so I had to get tix for my DD to go see this one and I think they ended up costing a bit more than for the Orlando show.

Just for kicks, how bad is the drive from WDW to Daytona? I could use the room only code and stay at Pop for the weekend. No parks...just the show. If we even get to do this, we'll have to get the lowest price level tickets. I'm really ticked about the whole thing.

It's about a 90-min drive with no traffic. You could bypass I-4 and take the 417 toll road that hooks up with I-4 up in Sanford but prepare to pay about $6-7 in tolls. But, since it's on a Sunday, traffic on I-4 shouldn't be too bad except around the attractions area around dinner time and at park closing times.

It's Labor Day weekend so I'm not sure if any codes apply for big discounts but you could have fun doing minigolf, DTD, resort-hopping, restaurants, etc. for the weekend.

It only took us an hour to get from POFQ to the Speedway and I don't remember any toll roads. It was a very pleasant drive. I think DH took I-95.

We had a great AP discount last year for Labor Day, because it is relatively quiet at WDW that weekend.

I-4 has no tolls. The 417 is a toll road that runs east from I-4 near Disney then turns north and meets up again with I-4 near Sanford. Disney's Magical Express takes the 417 from the airport to the resorts. Makes a good alternate to avoid rush hour I-4 traffic which can often be bumper-to-bumper from Conroy all the way up to Maitland (the 414). On weekends, as I said above, I-4 should be fine.

I guess it wouldn't be quite 90 min. to the Speedway as it's real close to I-4. But, getting further in (the beach itself) can easily be another 15 min. due to the traffic lights.

In any case...it's not that bad of a drive.

Both St. Augistine and WDW are right about an hour to the Sweedway area. The drive into WDW is nothing. When we go to Florida, we stay in a family members home in Daytona and drive into Orlando to do things. I can make the drive in my sleep it is so easy (as long as you are not going against rush hour traffic). For some reason, the drive to St. Augistine seems much further though I know that it is not. I would look for something right ON the beach (though expensive) or along I95/speedway area. Anything in between probaly won't be nice (clean). Just taking a guess, look at Ormond Beach (south of Daytona) or Holly Hill area (north of Daytona). Since Daytona is the big name town on the coast along there, I wonder if their hotels are priced at a premium. Ones outside of town might be a bit less.

Try the Hilton Oceanfront. It is practically across the street and they might have some good deals on Priceline. There are some Comfort Inn and Suites there also. My friend stayed at the Daytona Beach Conference Center and it was great! She got a really good deal on travelocity.

Ormond is actually north of Daytona. My Dad has a couple of timeshares there. :)

We love sun Viking lodge. It is kid friendly, clean, right on the beach, and even has a water slide. Rates are about $50 per night!

Thank you all for your responses. I'm going to check in to the sun viking lodge. I can get 3 nights at Pop for $210 which is actually okay, I think. If all this works, I may still end up doing WDW and driving up to Daytona.

Oopps...I knew that didn't sound right as I wrote it. Check Ormond too, but I was thinking of Port Orange that is south of Daytona. I don't know what is all down there but it looked nice as I drove through it last month.
