Daytona beach question - OK to go first week in march with kids?

Hi

Does anyone know what Daytona beach is like the first week of march? We are considering going there after Disney but are scared of spring break. We have a 3 year old and the baby will be 7 months so we thought the beach would be nice but don't want to be surrounded by drunk college kids.......

That is the first week of Spring Break. Looks like USF and UF have spring break that week. It's basically all of March. Also? The water will be cold!

If you go to Daytona head north to Daytona Beach Shores. You can still drive on the beach, but its north of the main section of Daytona. There are a lot of public restrooms, too. The beach is really wide and flat. I have good friends who live in Daytona and we always go to Daytona Beach Shores. The locals know.
I'm used to crowded beaches in the mid atlantic. I don't think Daytona could ever get close to that crowded.

Water will definitely be cold. We went in April when highs were upper 80s and the water was too cold to swim. The kids jumped in with clothes on and doused me with a bucket when my back was turned.
