Well the 2009 Daytona 500 is in the books. I went down Thursday for the duels and wasn't overly impressed by either race. The best race all weekend IMO was the truck race. Those guy's really put on a good show and they get paid coins compared to the Nationwide and Cup guy's. The Car of Tomorrow has ruined the sport. The most exciting drafting was Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch because they were the only one's who had the nerve to draft together and put the cars thru their paces.

I'm sure Rhonda is happy with the outcome lol. Matt Kenseth is her man.

The whole cars hitting each others doors and racing for the lead was boring. What once would raise the hair on your neck has turned out to be a beer drinking showdown by the fans lol. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I went to drink beer and watch a good race. IMO, the 500 is the superbowl of racing and ending such a big race without a complete finish robs the fans and the drivers. The rain stopped about 1 hour after the race and could've been completed.

The traffic as usual was a whole another story. When I left the campground I stayed at, I had to turn right and I-95 was about a 1/2 mile away which was great. When I go to turn on 95, the troopers flagged us straight. I was like what? I could actually see the on ramp to 95 North. I ended up (along with a lot of other rigs) going 5 miles south to Port Orange. Once I got there I thought we were going to be able to get back on 95. Once I go to turn there, I see drums blocking the way and had to go about a mile east and do a U turn. There were some big rv's having a hard time making that turn. I have no idea what and why they wouldn't let us on the I-4/I-95 ramp but there were some mad people. I personally think the people could've done better without the troopers to be honest. There was no accident or any obstructions at the intersection and I question what why FHP would do what they did. Anyway, I have attended my last race unless Nascar changes the racing. I'm not even sure what they've done because so many changes have happened but they can count this fan out.

Why do you keep going Donnie ?

Hey Stacktester, It's the same story at Talladega. Alabama Troopers close the whole area off and send certain gates exiting different direction. If you park in the wrong place they will send you south 20 miles thru the city of Talladge before you can find a route that allows you to turn north and east to go to Atlanta. I camp next to the track now that I have a camper and learned to never try to leave earlier than 4 hours after the race ends. Last time I tried it took me over 4 hours to drive 40 miles west to Birmingham to head south to go home.

Then you add that nascar has mandated that the army of off duty police they hire turn the whole camping situation into a police state under curfew. They have taken all the fun out of the non racing activities. The whole race is just like Daytona. With 43 cars riding around behind each other trying to avoid a wreck and finish in a good spot to get points for the chase.

I didn't go to either race last year and may not go this year. I have been loosing intrest since the switched to the COT. It's like watching a kiddie go cart race. You never know who will win becase they are all equal and look alike.

Because I'm stooooooooopid I guess. I must forget after a year how bad the last race was lol. I did quit going to the Pepsi 400 and traded that for the fort. I guess I'm half cured huh?

You see the glass as half empty, I see it as half full. I think there was a lot to be excited about for this years races. I did however hate seeing the race end early but I agree with what they did.

After the 500 last year you said you where not going anymore. Guess we will have to wait for next years report.:lmao:

he wasn't going anymore to that particular race in 2008

I'm not as mad about the race ending early as I am about how the cars perform. Like flametamr said, they're all the same and they try to avoid the big one. It probably costs thousands of dollars to dry the track. Heck, maybe tens of thousands and I can see that point. I miss the days of the cars coming off the corners beatin and bangin for the lead and the crowd going crazy. Those were racing days. We sat in turn 1 on top of an rv and were probably 100' or less from the cars. You just don't see the new cars up on the bumpers making runs like you once did. Nascar said it did the COT for the fans. I don't get it. Maybe I'm missing something. I think for the mnoney it costs to see a race you should at least get a show. I can go up to I-95 and watch cars go by fast all day in single order.

I vote with my feet Donnie, havent been to a Sprint cup race in a few years and even that ticket was free. I prefer to spend my money at the local short track where the whole family and a lot of friends are. I think the racing is getting better with the new car, I am actually encouraged by the steps Nascar has taken. I doubt that I will be attending any races here since the race at MI really doesnt change that much but if money allows I may go to Indy and catch the Nationwide and truck races at ORP.

We rode over to Volusia Co. Speedway one night and had a blast. The racing was great and I really enjoyed it. The safety Nascar has improvised is great Scott. God only knows, Joey Logano should at least be at Halifax Medical Center today if it wasn't for the great technology they are using. All I'm asking for is that the cars ride closer and be able to make a pass. Maybe we'll see later this year some better stuff. Nascar seems to be listening. The trucks IMO are absolutely the best series right now. At the end of the race my heart was pounding from all the excitement.

The trucks have always been as good of, if not better racing, for a fraction of the price. We went to ORP in 97 and got quite a few autographs and met some drivers. I met Kurt Busch, Mike Wallace and Rick Crawford at a truck autograph session years ago.

Wow, that stinks that they gave you the run around on the road home. That and I don't care for large crowds is why I'll always just watch the race at home. I watched all of it though from the Bud shoot out to the practice sesions to actual race. Though I must say I didn't watch the truck race, I just can't seem to get into the trucks. I know I am weird. I did love the 500though even though my boys Carl Edwards and Jamie McMurry didn't do so well. At least someone from our garage took the title. He, it's only the first race...many more to go. Let's go racing boys!!

ZOOOOOOOM!
