Daytona 500 - anyone watch

Next year coverage will switch to ABC & ESPN and will have Rusty commentating. Yay Rusty!!!

Will Rusty say boogity boogity boogity? LOL I think I will miss that the most. Yesterday's race was alright. I am a Johnson fan so I am very happy!

We watched, and to be honest, I'll be glad when Fox takes over (they do have this year don't they?). Those NBC announcers are extremely biased toward Jeff Gordon--every single time something happened, they cut to what Gordon was doing! If you're a fan, that's great, but his wasn't the only car running in the race! He wasn't even near the front for most of it!

At one point, there was something that happened with McMurray's car in the pit. He'd been right in the top five, all of a sudden he was way in the back. My DH is a McMurray fan and was going ballistic not knowing what happened. It took those announcers 10 minutes to finally mention what happened. Before that they were going on and on about Gordon! And he wasn't doing anything! Every time there's an accident, it was "where's Gordon?" We have it taped, I'm tempted to go listen just to count how many times they talk about him compared with the other drivers. I swear there was one sentence that mentioned Jeff Gordon five times.

Vent over.

Otherwise, it was a good race. Glad to see Jr. doing a little better--he made a couple of bonehead decisions, though. Although he did say the car was like an old man--it would wake up and go great for a while, then go back to napping.

Not overjoyed about Jimmy Johnson winning, but at least it wasn't Stewart or the Busch boys. They're going to kill someone if they keep it up. Stewart should have been disqualified for his antics. I like the #20, but he needs to get a grip and stop acting out on his grudges. Hold a grudge if you must, but the track is not the place to "get even."

Chad Knaus has a repeated history of cheating. He always has & he always will. I think the result yesterday is a "Cheaters DO Prosper" result. All of his pit crew was waxing on about what a GREAT team he has built, yada, yada, yada.

Bull. He cheats. Thenext time the #48 car is found with a violation, it should be yanked from the race.

That being said, I'm glad no one got hurt. Also thought it was really funny when Kyle Busch' parting words on TV were "I hate this place". Ya' know Kyle, you can always have a REAL job.........

Hopefully the Petty's will have some success this year, & I'm always rooting for Bill E. to sneak up to the top again.

Could there be any more commercials? Some of them were funny, but come on. They would barely run two laps of the race and then have to go to commercials. I think we see more sponsor time, than race time these days!

How exactly did cheaters prosper? Unless I missed something, his car passed post race inspection. Therefore, he won fairly and deserved to win.

Crew chiefs always have and always will push as far as they can. I don't agree with what Chad did, he deserved to be punished and the punishment he received was appropriate.

As for yanking the 48 car, the whole team and the sponsors shouldn't be punished for what one person does.

Also, since you mentioned the Petty's. Kyle Petty said this just this past week regarding cheating:

http://www.nascar.com/2006/news/headlines/cup/02/17/france.nascar/index.html

"I always told my guys, 'Cheat neat and you'll get by with a bunch of stuff,''' Petty said. "Those days are pretty much over. It's so technical. I don't think some of the guys working on the car even understand what's going on because that's how technical it got.

"I don't particularly tell my guys to cheat. I just tell them not to get caught.''

I like Kyle Petty and although I doubt he'll do very well this year, I do hope his season is much better than in recent years.

On another topic, I agree about Kyle Busch. I thought it was a ridiculous thing to say.

NBC gets the Daytona 500 and the 2nd half of the season, just like last year. Fox will begin coverage this weekend already in California. I just think Fox's coverage is head and shoulders above NBC. NBC has terrible camera angles, and always seems to miss a crash. The commentators are not very good. In general, what bothers me the most is NBC seems to be very late in picking up on developments, or miss them altogether. Why wouldn't they go to Stewart's crew chief immediately after that incident for comment as one example.

My guess would be they were too busy analyzing how Stewarts actions affected Jeff Gordon. :goodvibes
