Days Suites at Old Town?

We often shop at the Publix and Walgreen's right across the street when we are in the area. Honestly, I don't think it's any worse or rundown than the other end of 192.

I TOTALLY disagree. There is FAR less crime and shady characters romaing around as you get past OLCC and towards Summer Bay on the very west end of 192.

Other than an occaisional bank robbery, it's pretty safe over that way. If you read the "Police Blotter" in the paper you'll see that there are far more crimes in the Old Town area--car break-ins, burglary's, drug dealing, etc.

We stayed there for 4 days in 2002. I would definately not stay again and would caution anyone thinking of staying here. The only reason we did not switch hotels was becasue nothing else was avaiable at the time and since we didn't have much time at WDW we just decided to spend as much time away from the hotel as possible. We had no idea what to expect but, since it was in our AAA book we thought how bad can it be?? Well, if it sounds too good to be true it probaly is.

The place was VERY dirty. I don't mean not clean to my specifications, I mean years of dirt and the last day our room had little bugs in the kitchen. We are not deluxe hotel folks and really just require a clean and comfortable place to sleep and shower. This was NOT it! We thought we would save money since it has a kitchen but, we spent more eating out becasue we didn't want to be in the room. I wrote Days Inn when we returned and they would not take any of the responsibility becasue they are franchised and not all owned by Days Inn.

If budget is an issue I think there has to be other alternatives. We still had a magical vacation because "Hey, we were at Disney" but never again...

Hope this helped!

We did stay there a few years ago. Some of the criticism is deserved. The place is pretty old and looks it. The carpet was worn. The furniture was worn. A couple of kitchen cabinet doors were damaged. Stuff like that.

However, we were only paying like $30 or $40/nite so we didn't expect a whole lot. The suite is huge, much larger than other suite hotels I've stayed in. The location is great, especially if you like to visit Old Town, which we do. You can just walk right across the lot.

We never felt unsafe there at all.

Would we stay there again? No. The reason we wouldn't stay there again is because we have learned of so many better places since then. Through SkyAuction, for example, we have rented a 2-bed, 2-bath timeshare the past 2 trips for $37/nite and that was FAR nicer than Days Suites and Days only had 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. Also, if you can spend a little more, you can rent a condo somewhere like Windsor Palms and have super nice accomodations in a gated community.

So at this point, I just don't think Days Suites offers anything you can't improve on elsewhere.

Just had to add, now I feel really ripped off because we paid $80.00 a ngiht and I am reading some only paid $40!

After reading these responses, is that whole area not good? We have reservations at the Comfort Suites Maingate East, is that also in a worn-down crappy area?

Thanks

I can only comment on Days Inn. But, the area itself seemed to me to be a typical "tourist" strip. We went to the publix and I thought it was nice also visited a few resturants in the area and had no complaints. I am no expert on the area but, I am sure there are great places to stay. I would just recommend, based on my experience, to research your hotel before you get there. And you found the DIS so what better place to look for answers.
