Daylight Saving Time 2025

I've seen here where some parents complain that their kids have to go to school in the dark. But, unless the kids are very young, aren't those same kids awake at 7-8pm?

My problem when my kids were awake little was they still needed to go to bed at 8pm in the summer because they had to get up early & go to daycare because I worked. It is very difficult to get kids to go to sleep when it is till light outside and would be until after 9pm and they can hear the neighborhood kids playing outside.

When our kids were in elementary school, we lived on an unpaved road without street lights. It was about a quarter mile to the school bus stop at the end of the road, also unlighted, and when Daylight Time started we had to drive them down there because it was too dark to walk safely around the potholes, even with a flashlight, and we had to wait in the car with them until the bus picked them up because in the dark the bus (and other vehicles passing that corner) couldn’t see them very well. It was a safety issue, and it’s the same in many rural and semi-rural areas of the US.

Neither spring forward nor spring back ever bother me. It's an hour, one way or another. I always want to say, "What? Don't you ever have a night out, stay up late, have to get to an early meeting?" I guess I am lucky, but the shift in time/light never bothers me.
r.e. bold - In my youth it was always *Spring forward - Fall back*

Today
I left my garage at 1:54am on my bicycle for a Welcome Daylight SAVING Time bicycle ride. *TIME ITSELF* passed from 1:59:59am to 3:00:00am so fast I didn't feel a thing.

Had a quiet and a bit foggy 13.32 mile bicycle ride.

I was really surprised today to learn how many other countries observe daylight saving time. I always thought of it as a North American oddity.
Although we make the time change earlier in March than some other nations. We do a weekly video chat with my daughter in Germany on Sundays and she wanted to know why we called an hour early. Germany doesn't change their time until March 30.

It was a rough one this time for sure. Sleep is not my friend anyway, so falling asleep on spring forward is exceptionally bad. Couple that with the disruption of DH suffering through colonoscopy prep and having to set the alarm for 4:15 a.m. to take him for a zero dark thirty procedure was brutal. He was very happy to get some well-earned rest when we got home.

They did a colonoscopy on a Sunday?

So, it's Tuesday...I'm still adjusting...and apparently, so is the wildlife. I hit our greenbelt trails this morning just before dawn and scared the living daylights out of this barred owl. I brightened the image because it was still pretty dark outside, but I know he's questioning why he's seeing people before the sun is fully up. So, even nature is saying we need to stop this madness!

I don't care which time they choose but just pick one. At least that way I wouldn't have to see people writing about it and putting a "S" where it does not belong. 8-)

Yea, I keep getting confused... does DST = Daylight SAVINGS Time or Daylight STANDARD Time. 🤔

HATE the time changes. It IS a big deal for chronic lifelong insomniacs like myself - we already don't sleep well & part of maximizing the little precious sleep we DO get is based on keeping a sleep schedule and it takes quite a while to readjust when it's changed. Glad it doesn't affect alot of folks that way but please realize that there are those of us that it very much does negatively affect :(.
