How far are you willing to travel for a "day trip"?

Came to the beach today and will be here 5 or 6 hours before heading home but we probably travelled twice as far as the nearest oceanside resort.

2 hrs max drive..maybe 3...depending where it is..

I live near Disney, and I consider going to Jacksonville/St Augustine/Ocala all day trips..

Key West...overnighter..definatly...

:rotfl: My husband would answer this by saying, "well a day IS 24 hours".

We live in CT. We've been known to drive to Charlotte for a Nascar race as a day trip. Really.:rotfl2: Longest damn day ever.

On a normal basis, we will do a 5-6 hour (each way) trip as a day trip: from here in CT to Brunswick ME for a cousins Naval Retirement party, and stuff like that.

These days anything over 2 hours is too far! I drive for my job and the last thing I want to do on my down time is drive!!! A little off-topic, but I bought a brand new car with less than 100 miles on it on April 25th, I now have 8,400 mile on it. Now you know why I don't like to drive on my down time!

2 to 3 hours.

if i do a day trip, it's to the mississippi gulf coast (like yesterday...it's about 1.5 hours to get there). we spent all day over there shopping and ate.

farthest i've gone on a day trip is to pensacola beach which is like 3.5 hours from me.

I would say in the 3-4 hour range just because you do need to leave time to do whatever when you get there, any more than that and we stay overnight.

We have driven to New York City more than once as a day trip. It is a 5-6 hour (depending on traffic) one way trip from our house in southern Maine. Normally, we'd go for a few days, but there have been times when we've gone down just to attend some special event, and we'd leave early in the morning and return very late that night.

4 hours each way is a maximum for me.

I have a feeling that might change since some of the colleges my kids are looking at might be 5 or 6 hours away.

Two to three is usually the max for us for a day trip. Further than that and we usually make it an overnighter! :goodvibes

Miami is only about an hour long flight from here, and the two "sister" islands aren't too far as well, about 60-70 miles.

Yosemite is probably a 2 hour drive from here and we haven't done it! I told DH it's something I'd like to do this summer. We'll see....

We once drove 4 hours to go to dinner. We asked my godson where he wanted to go for dinner and he said "Good and Plenty" which is in Lancaster PA...we are in NY....so we said...ok lets go...and off we went, had dinner and drove back home!

:thumbsup2 That's the kind of stuff that we do too!

Teh longest "day trip" of my life was a couple of years ago. We did the day trip due to extenuating scheduling circumstances.

DD stayed in town (she was in 6th grade) as she had already committed to a "relay for Life team". Then one of my cousins decided to get married that weekend about 5 hours away. We didn't want to be gone overnight on Friday, since DD was at the relay for life. So - we left our house about 6am for a 1:00 wedding, and the reception immediately followed the service. We left the reception about 5. We stopped on the way home to say "hello" to my BIL's family, and then drove home, and got homme by 10 or 11.

This was awful. I will never intentionally have that long of a "driving day" again. It simply wasn't worth the fight DH and I got in on the way home (I was too tired to drive, and DH got pretty irritated at me...blah, blah, blah - he drove all the way there - how could I be too tired to drive home. He was driving in the daytime, and I got the night driving time.) And, looking back, it wasn't worth the "what if" I would have fallen asleep at the wheel and got into an accident.

A good day trip IMO is a couple of hours away - Chicago is a great day trip (but a better long weekend!) and Madison is also a great day trip from the Milwaukee area.

Ok, so we aren't much more crazy than some of you for driving 3.5-4 hours from PA to Ocean City MD for a day at the beach - not that we go often, maybe 2 or 3 times a year. A lot of people think it's too far to go for just one day, considering NJ beaches are a shorter 2.5-3 hours drive.

I don't know that I would drive 3-4 hours for dinner though.

Two hours is our max. Although we did drive the 2.5 hours once for a day at Disney.

We don't enjoy driving as much as we used to so two hours one way is about our max unless we have a really compelling reason for the trip. We're located where we have a lot within a two-hour drive (WDW is one hour).
