We are planning one day away from Disney and driving to the beach. I've been to St Pete many times but never to Cocoa Beach. Those that have been please tell me about it. In your opinion which is better?

We haven't been to either, and I considered Cocoa Beach and changed my mine, but last Saturday after we checked out from Disney we drove over to Daytona and the beach and it was really nice.

Dh and I did the Daytona 500 Experience at the track and then we drove to the beach area and you can actually drive on the beach. It was really nice and the water was so cool on such a hot day. The drive was less than 1 hour from Disney.

I haven't been been to St. Pete's but I have been to both Clearwater and Cocoa. In my opinion, nothing can compare to a Gulf beach. Gorgeous and calm water, gorgeous and cool sand. Cocoa was just okay in my opinion. We went to the part located right near Cocoa Beach Pier, which I enjoyed because there were restaurants, tourist shops, etc. But again, I prefer the water and sand on the Gulf.

Some years back we went to Cocoa Beach and I thought that it was HORRIBLE. VERY dirty (and I am neither a Domestic Goddess or Germophobe).

We have the opportunity to spend a few days at Clearwater next month and I am really looking forward to it. :)

Ok I guess we might be going to St. Pete instead. I've always been to the Gulf side of Florida and I love it but it's always so hot. This year we will be there in Oct instead of July so I'm sure it will be much better. Now I can visit my favorite place to get a cuban sandwich :thumbsup2

I would recommend the gulf beaches. I lived in Clearwater for 2 years after college and have been to the Atlantic side a couple of times. The water in the gulf is usually warmer and less rough. My recommendation for a beach would be either Honeymoon Island or Caladesi which are both just north of Clearwater off of Dunedin.

Gulf Blvd (Rt. 699) runs along the Gulf and stretches from Clearwater to Pass-a-Grill. There are a bunch of nice beaches all along the 24 mile stretch.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll look into those beaches. I'm always up for going somewhere I've never been before.

I agree with you.

I usually love the Atlantic Ocean and I didn't mind Cocoa Beach itself, the sand was more what I was used to from living on the East Coast; but it doesn't compare to the Gulf beaches. I didn't enjoy the town at all though, or the strip along the beach in any case.
