day trip to nick hotel anyone?

We have tortured ourselves over doing a night at the nick hotel ever since I found out a couple years ago or so that you have to spend the night there to do the character dining

I do not want to stay there....the reviews I've seen aren't good and I'm just not impressed with it. however our son is obsessed with ninja turtles and power rangers. we're going to be in orlando over a power rangers weekend so i booked a night there but we aren't going to actually use it. has anyone done that?

my plan is to check in at disney and take a cab over to the nick hotel...do the special power rangers package and the ninja turtles dinner, check out and take a cab back to disney. anyone actually done that have some tips?
