DAY THREE 4th of July

Today our luggage had to be ready by 7am and placed just outside our rooms (apparently for this trip each time we traveled to our next hotel our bags had to be outside our room to be picked up). We left Dublin at 8:30am to travel 2 hours to the Rock of Cashel. About an hour into our trip we stopped and were treated to scones and tea.

When we arrived at the Rock of Cashel the junior adventurers went on a shamrock hunt with our ABD guides. The adults went with the local guide.

It was very windy up on the hill here.

Inside Cormac's Chapel. This is being restored - you can see the roof rotting.

The bus drove us into the town so we could have lunch on our own. The guides suggested a handful of places to eat. DD had an upset stomach so we stopped at the supermarket and got some water and crackers to see if that would help. About an hour and a half later we boarded the bus for the 2-hour ride to Killarney. The roads here were very curvy and, despite the anti-nausea medications both she and I had taken at breakfast, DD got sick. The driver stopped the bus and the guides were great about cleaning up, getting her water, etc. The guides had been passing out anti-nausea remedies earlier in the ride and they passed out even more afterwards. We hit some traffic while getting to Killarney so ended up arriving later than expected so our guides made a switch to the itinerary. Instead of going to dinner at Kate Kearneys Cottage tonight we were to have dinner on our own and those who wanted to meet up for the ghost tour at 8:30pm. Plus the hotel staff notified our guides that when we arrived they would have a 4th of July reception for us with canapés, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages. It was such a nice gesture from the hotel staff. The cocktails were even color coordinated red, white and blue.

Our hotel room was very nice. More like a suite than a room.

DD was feeling better and we went to an Italian restaurant just across the street from our hotel aptly named Cucina Italiana.

We met in the lobby and headed out on our ghost tour. The ABD guides suggested this tour was for teenagers and adults due to the scare factor. There are some surprise things that do make you jump. On the bus our local guide told Irish stories about ghost, fairies and banshees. We made a quick stop to a hotel with a lake said to have a ghost haunting it. We also went to an abbey with a spooky past. The tour lasted about 90 minutes.

The tree in the center of the abbey. Supposedly if it is cut it seeps blood. :scared1:

Here is DD hamming it up. It was not really that cold - I think she is channeling the Blair Witch Project. haha

Enjoying the trip so far. Any more?
Thanks in advance.

Yes there is more, I promise. I was able to post my report for our Germany ABD and started this one before I had to return to work and real life...and I had to plan out our trip to DLR next week and our Disney Alaskan cruise the following week. :lmao:

I'll get back to work on posting the rest of this trip in September so stay tuned. :surfweb:
