Day out in London

Dh and I have decided, in an effort not to spend the next 5 days vegging out round the house, to take the kids to London for the day on Saturday. After I got over the initial shock of train fares (over £100 ), I have decided we really need something relatively cheap (or preferably free) to do when we get there. We already have in mind to go to either the British or Natural History museum.

Just wondered if anyone has any suggestions for places to eat and other things to do that 2 teenage girls and a 4 year old might enjoy.

after we did the british museum last weekend (on the saturday before the meet) I'd say go to the natural history, I much prefer it, then you can head across the road to Valeries Patisserie for yummy cakes and go in to the park for a picnic.
or covent garden would be great but your girls will probably want all the lovely clothes!

The science museum is another great place that suits all ages. It's very hands on and there is a big section downstairs in the basement where the kids can get to play and do their own experiments. It also has an IMAX cinema if you can splurge out a little more. We can spend hours here (even with a teenager ).

I second the sceince museum too, especially the hands on bit downstairs. My 11 year olds at school loved it too. I like the bit upstairs where they have taken a cross section from a jumbo jet and mounted it on the wall!!

For something to eat, if you find yourselves near Trafalgar Square I can recommend Little Frankie's in Whitehall.

We had a great meal there last Saturday. They do steak, pizza's, burgers and pasta dishes and milkshakes for the kids so I'm sure everybody could find something on the menu they like.
