Day One, September 7

Left the house at 6:15 this morning. (We had already taken Gracie and Chloë to the Kitty Spa (i.e., the vet) the day before for their fabulous, all expenses paid, 11-night stay.) Flew Continental to Houston – not too bad of a flight: I only had a death grip on BF’s knee a few times. Tropical Storm Fay was making a fuss, so our landing was a little delayed. Our onward flight to Orlando was delayed too, so no big deal.

Arrived at MCO around 7:45 p.m. Has anyone else noticed that the shuttle you take from the gate to Baggage Claim smells a lot like “Pirates of the Caribbean”?

Took the Mears Shuttle to ASMo. Got very nearly what I requested in my fax: 101 Dalmatians (Building 1), non-smoking room. The only we didn’t get was a room above the ground floor, but it didn’t matter too much. I thought the room was perfectly nice – though certainly basic – but I do tend to wonder just how people manage to get stains on the ceiling. I don’t even want to think about it, quite frankly. Also, what is the deal with hotel curtains? Someone somewhere is manufacturing these curtains to be exactly 1/8 of an inch too short so that no matter how hard you pull, there will always be a small gap that lets in an alarmingly huge shaft of light that always, no matter what, lands right on your pillow and, therefore, in your eyes. I mean, what is the point of having blackout curtains if they don’t meet in the middle?

As it was so late, we just grabbed chicken wraps from the fridge section of the Food Court. They weren’t very good … kind of damp. Stopped in at the arcade afterward, but nearly everything was broken! (How on earth can three SkeeBall machines be broken? It can’t possibly have that many moving parts.)

Went back to the room and zonked out. Not too hot, but v. v. muggy.

I have wondered about the curtains myself once or twice - thanks for posting!

I just had that curtain experience this weekend and I wasn't even in WDW! ;)

In regard to the MCO shuttle smell, I never thought about it but.......ya maybe;)

Curtains, we take pins!

Good start so far, thanks!
