Planning to resort hop using resort monorail on day off. Opinions on best QS for lunch? I have read so many varying reviews on other sites. is the dole whip at poly in capt cook to count as a drink/dessert/ snack credit?

Grand Floridian's QS was not good when I was there last Thanksgiving. Captain Cook's was good, didn't go to Contemporary.

I used to like Captain Cooks more, but now I think since you're resort hopping anyhow you should have lunch at Contempo, and then later get a Dole Whip as a snack/paying oop at the Poly; go sit outside if the weather isn't bad and soak up the outdoor ambiance.

Love that idea!

I also like Contempo Café and it was the first place I thought of. Haven't tried a meal at Captain Cook's yet.

Captain Cooks is good, as is the Contempo cafe. I that that Gasparillo's was okay. I will say that I would avoid Captain Cooks if you want to eat at noontime or during normal luch hours. It gets really busy.

If you are open to more than monorail places, I think Riverside Mill at POR has a lot of great choices, plus you can take the boat from there to Disney Springs.
Additionally, the Mara at AKL has a limited menu, but it is nicely prepared and you can view animals on the savannas after/before your meal. (I feel that if you travel for your QS food, it is nice to have a bit more to do than just eat.)

Resort hop is always fun, I like poking in the different stores

I have not been impressed with any of the CS at the monorail resorts. (I would do Contempo over the others)

Now a quick trip to Disney Springs and Wolfgang puck marketplace - yum! TS quality at CS prices

Can always head to OKW from MK buses and then take a boat to Disney Springs, another resort to see and a lovely boat ride can add to your day off
enjoy!

AKL would be on my resort hopping list, with Mara as my lunchtime stop if I was not keeping just the monorail resorts on my plan

We have stayed at POR a couple of times, so would like to try something new but great suggestion since it was a good QS. We even went to POFQ for variety. Would love to try AKL just not sure about all the travelling. What is the best way to get there from POP? Take bus to a park and then switch buses? Original plan was resort hop monorail line, back to POP for afternoon swim and then head to DS for dinner. But could totally save DS for departure day. Hmmm... Something to think about....

Best way would be to take the bus to AK and get the AKL bus from there (a short ride!...and do ask the driver of the bus to AK if his next stop is AKL...sometimes it is!)

Also, if you wanted to go to Disney Springs, you could pick up the bus at AKL, then swim in the evening! (I love to swim without needing to put sunscreen on!)

Where else does the AKL bus stop?
Kidani Village. What I was meaning was that when drivers drop off their passengers to a park, it is then that they are directed to their next pick up/drop off location, and IF your POP driver was directed to pick up guests going to AKL from AK, you wouldn't have to walk to that bus stop at AK....sometimes you get lucky!

The dole whip is no longer at the CS at the Poly, they put it at a separate stand where you can get it using a snack credit. We really liked the Contempo Cafe the last 2 times that we stayed at CR so I would probably agree with getting lunch there and stopping at the Poly to have a dole whip while checking out the resort. The Mara was also really good when we stayed at AKL if you feel like taking the buses. Also the resort is really gorgeous plus you could check out the animals from the public savannah viewing spots

Another vote for The Mara at AKL! Their food is really good, the resort is beautiful. Ask a CM for the hidden Mickey scavenger hunt paper and find Mickeys while exploring the resort and checking out the animals. We've never stayed there but visit it quite a bit!

Bonus...The Mara also has Zebra Domes :)

Now thinking visiting DS in the am and taking bus to AKL from DS. Back to POP (via AKL-AK-POP) for afternoon swim and break. Dinner time go to Epcot to grab monorail and do monorail resorts eating at either Contempo or Capt Cooks... still liking the idea of eating at Contempo and dole whip at Poly. Before heading back to POP for the evening or taking the AofA bus and walking back to POP.

This is actually a pretty awesome plan. I love the Contempo Cafe! Its often our QS meal on MK days too!

Great plan! Though if you're planning dinner at Contempo, maybe instead of taking bus to Epcot, then monorail from Epcot you should take the bus to MK and walk to Contemporary. If you take the monorail from Epcot you will have to transfer at the TTC and wait for another monorail to get to Contemporary (which will be the last stop on that monorail). If you go straight to MK you can walk and save a ton of time. However, if you do Capt Cooks for dinner, you can do your original plan with monorail from Epcot and walk the short walk to Poly instead of waiting for another monorail. Hope this helps!
