Day-of FP+ on high crowd days

Our arrival day is 1/1 and we (4 adults, a 3yo and a baby) plan to spend part of the evening in MK. Will there be any FP available or should I just plan on walking around and riding the carousel?

We can't book FP based on limits (long trip) until we arrive.

If I were arriving on 1/1 for a long trip, and planning to visit the park that night, I'd book FP+ for the 1st and book a later day as soon as possible after that (presumably, the 2nd). The later you go into your trip, the lower crowds are going to be, so "last minute" FP+ will be easier to get then.
