Our last full day at WDW dawns bright and sunny. We congratulate ourselves on picking this day to go to the water parks. However, there is a small problem. We have water parks near our home, and in our experience, the concrete on a sunny day approaches the temperature of a welders torch. Many a day have DH (hereafter referred to as Clint) and I went to these, and if you forget your sandals or aquasocks, you are in misery! I brought a pair of thong sandals, but not really good aquasocks or velcro sandals. Well, guess what Clint has forgotten to pack? So we head down 192 in search of somewhere to get him some sandals. He says he wants to go to this "Camping World" store he saw a couple of night before, thinking they will carry Columbia or Timberland sandals. I tell him that we should just stop at a tourist trap, because he doesn't need to spend $40 on a pair of sandals he'll never wear again. He refuses to wear sandals or loafers. He thinks they are hideous, don't make me go into his fashion sense (or lack thereof). But he insists, and we drive all the way to Kissimmee looking for this store. Finally, what do we see? "CAMPER WORLD" specializing in Winnebagos and used motor homes. So we turn around, because Clint has saw a Nike factory store some miles back. We find it, go inside, and NOTHING. The only sandals are in my size and are $40. Clint insists that he will go without, sparking the "Great Sandal Debate" of 2002. I remind him of the temperature of the concrete at Waterville, Point Mallard, etc, and that I will have no pity on him when his feet are cooking just because he is being stubborn. He brings up something about how my sandals are ugly, and make my feet look big. Besides, my toenail polish is chipped, and he hopes I didn't pay $20 for that. The argument comes to a head with me screaming "You've ruined my life" and him screaming "We should have never gotten married" in the Payless Parking Lot. All over a pair of aquasocks. We silently get in the car, and I am just going to head to Blizzard Beach, and I dont care if his feet burst into flame. But I have also forgotten beach towels, so we go silently into the Big Orange and pick out two towels. Clint heads to the counter carrying a pair of velcro sandals, only $4.99. I say nothing, but pay for them and we head to BB.

A wary truce has been called by the time we get to Blizzard Beach, and we head inside and rent our locker, purchase a refillable cup (the BEST investment! It paid for itself immediately!) and head for the chairlift. Clint quickly points out that no one around us has on sandals. I point out that most of the people around us speak no English, or are from up north and have no experience with water parks. We ride the chairlift to the summit, and I look around. NO ONE HAS ON SANDALS. I have almost filed for divorce over a stupid pair of shoes, and Disney has the audacity to shade their concrete or at least keep running water over it so that sandals aren't necessary! Thankfully, Clint knows to keep his mouth shut, and for this small gesture, I hug him, we put our sandals up in the locker and all is forgiven. He even buys me a hotdog to make me feel better. The slides at Blizzard Beach are awesome! We rode everything except Summit Plummet, because we HATE those kind of slides. Wedgies and enemas aren't things I regularly do for fun. The only thing I thought was bad was the fact that a CM is waiting on you on some of the slides with a CAMERA! How horrible! You're going to snap me in my SWIMSUIT? I am built fairly well, and I still don' t want to have a picture of me in a bikini! YUCK!

Curiosity gets the better of us, and we decide that we just have to see Typhoon Lagoon, too. So we pack up and head that way! The only downside is that our mug won't be good there unless we buy another $5 sticker. That sucks, but we think that we might try to trade mugs with someone leaving Typhoon Lagoon when we are coming in. There was a lot of bootleg mug trading going on at BB in the parking lot, and we figured we would cash in.

At Typhoon Lagoon, we ran around in the parking lot looking for a mug dealer. Alas, no one was leaving with a mug. So we go inside, and resign ourselves to another $5. Disney has been bleeding us dry since we arrived, what is another few bucks? So I approach a nice little man selling mugs and say "I guess I need a sticker.." He looks at me, grins, and said, "Well, you came to the right place! I have stickers, and if you won't say anything, you don' t have to pay!" I jump up and down and clap my hands, and he continues to tell me how he hates the way WDW has been cutting corners and charging extra for stuff, and there is a small but growing contingency of CM's who are "breaking the rules" and making the customer happy. I will not release his name to protect the innocent, but this made my day. We head for the slides, and frankly, we were quite disappointed in TL as a whole. The slides at BB were much faster, we had trouble at TL even getting down the flumes. I don't know if it was because there wasn't enough water running down them, or what, but I actually got stuck a couple of times. I am an average sized woman (5'10" and 155 lb) but just couldn't get going. Neither could Clint, and he is about 6'1" and 180 lb. The shark snorkeling ( Or snork sharkeling, as I kept saying) was really cool, though. I loved it and wanted to do it again. The wave pool area at Typhoon Lagoon was nice, too. I liked the fact that you could sit right in the edge of the water and get your feet wet. We only got to enjoy a few minutes here, because a horrible-looking thundercloud showed up and everyone dashed for the exits.

Thursday night was definitely our favorite night at WDW. We had an Illuminations Cruise booked at 8pm, so we decided to head over and eat at Cape May Buffet before the cruise. Keep in mind that we were originally booked at the YC until about two weeks before our honeymoon. So I was dreading letting Clint see that whole area, thinking that he would be mad that we didn't stay over there where "all the action was" and near Epcot. Thankfully the Boardwalk was not hopping, and while he liked the BC and YC, he really didn't make a big deal about it. Our dinner was excellent, and the weather was perfect for the Cruise. The boat was piloted by a Captain Mike, and he was wonderful! He told us the story behind Illuminations, which made it much nicer to watch. We just sat back, cruised around, enjoyed the show and finally had a touch of romance on the honeymoon.

Well..enough of romance, we are about to go to the club! We had checked out PI on Tuesday night, just to get a feel of the clubs there. We decided we liked Motion and Mannequins and the BET club. Not loving the others, but thats okay. We were going to Citywalk on Friday, and downtown Orlando to the REAL NIGHTLIFE on Saturday. Clint has been a DJ for years, and we're really into the whole breakbeat/house/techno with a little booty thing. So we head to PI, the place is JUMPIN.. People everywhere, and we are heartened by this. On Tuesday, we were the only people in Mannequins... So we head there, get in line, and I subtly start checking out the crowd. I notice that the line is looking rather "fabulous" and that I am the only girl in it. I say nothing to Clint, because we go to an "alternative" club in Nashville all the time with one of my best friends and his partner. We go inside, and Clint is so enthralled with the $300,000 light system and the mounted CO2 canisters on the ceiling that still he fails to notice the crowd. I am at the bar sipping on my horribly overpriced drink carrying on a conversation with "Chase" and "Jaden" (who later try to sell me drugs) when Clint comes dashing up and screams "FABULOUS!!" at the top of his lungs. ("Fabulous" has been our code word for people indulging in the alternative lifestyle all week. Or for those of you who don't pick up on my subtlety, gay people. ) So Chase and Jaden look at Clint in his Kenneth Cole head-to-toe club wear with the obligatory silk shirt unbuttoned over the black tee and pants, and agree, yes, he's fabulous. This was the best laugh I have had all week.... The only down side to "fabulous" night at Mannequins is that the music was suffering. Instead of all the hard hitting Orlando style breaks music that was playing on Tuesday, the DJ is playing up beat, female vocal, "happy" techotronic music. So we decide to head outta Dodge and hit Motions.

Motion is playing some pretty sweet music when we approach. But we quickly realize that the big draw here is that they SHOW the videos. Big deal. All that means is that the DJ isn't actually a DJ. He's just a trained monkey that hits PLAY when he wants a new song. No live mixing, and the songs are all edited. Again, not a problem, but he starts playing Ricky Martin and Britney Spears. However, the crowd is full of teeny-boppers who enjoy this. If I had to classify this crowd, it would be 19-year olds with attitude. Most of the VERY young girls were wearing next to nothing, dancing with Slim Shady lookalikes who insisted on carrying their FULL drinks out onto the dance floor and then getting pissy when they got knocked out of their hands. It was like a frat-reject party, so we went up to Traxx. AHA! Here is where people our age are! (25 and 28) But wait! I don't like this music! I was only 8 when this song came out! The mood in this club is strange. It is a lot of twenty-somethings who aren't quite old enough for the genre played here, but who don' t want to put up with the crap at Motion, and who aren't sexually secure enough to go to Mannequins... THANK GOD FOR THE BET SOUNDSTAGE CLUB! We ended up here and wished we had went there first. The DJ was awesome, the music was great, and the crowd was a great mix of old, young, black, white, hispanic. You could tell that everyone in here was here because they loved good music and liked to dance. The only drawback was that the drinks were still outrageously priced!

Overall, this was our favorite day at WDW. We like PI, but let me tell you, if we lived in Orlando, we would NOT be buying AP's for this place. Citywalk and Church Street kick PI's butt when it comes to partying... Then again, I guess PI targets people who dont usually go out at home. But this is bad, because they then think that ALL clubs are like this, when I truly believe that PI has the worst of what nightlife actually is... Stay tuned.. tomorrow we hit UNIVERSAL!

Glad you were able to get an Illuminations Cruise - they are fun aren't they - thanks for posting!

Glad to read the detailed comments about the PI nightlife. We haven't been to PI in a few years, and are planning to go in December - I now know what our hits and misses might be!

Thanks for the reviews - looking forward to hearing about City Walk and Church Street.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Great story!!!! Loved the sandal part and the 'fabulous part.' I'm taking my bf to Disney as a surprise (well I told him..woops) as his Christmas present so we are going to check out Mannequins and downtown Orlando. Any suggestions?

Wow...This trip report is four years old! I had forgotten all about it!

As far as nightlife...let's see. We always go to House of Blues on Sunday nights (go after 11:30pm...not much going on before then.) That's our favorite spot...it's Service Industry Night, they have rotating DJ's, and the music is always awesome. Plus, if you're at WDW, it's just a couple of minutes over there.

As far as downtown/N. Orange Ave/Church Street goes, we like to go to Antigua on Friday nights for hiphop night with DJ Magic Mike, we like Sky60 (it's a rooftop bar) and depending on who is spinning, Tabu, Icon and ZincBar have their moments. Slingapour's at Wall Street is a meatmarket, but fun, and I love going to Firestone. It's a gay club, but is an absolute blast.

I am sure that someone who posts on these boards lives in Orlando and can give some advice as well...I'm a tourist, but we have friends in Orlando, and these places are where they take us. The upside of going downtown is that cover is cheap or free before midnight for ladies, and the drinks are half the price of PI/Citywalk.

Perfect! :teeth: We were looking for a good gay club to go to and since this trip is a surprise for him, I'm trying to plan it all out and come up with some good places to go to at night.

Thanks for all the help!

Oh goody! If that's your scene, let me talk to my friends in Orlando and get back to you! They also go to a bar called Southern Nights and a club named Pulse (?) I think.

Mannequins on Thursday nights has a big scene, it's castmember night, I believe.

Thanks!! Yeah I've heard about Mannequins so I think we'll check that out. I've been researching online too. Ahhhh it can't come soon enough! :teeth:

If you find anything out, let me know. Thanks again.
