Day by day calling??

Read many posts that state members calling day by day for reservations. How is that done? Do you then have to link all those days together? What is the possible downside?

When you do this, you simply tell MS that you're going to be adding on day by day. They make a notation on your reservation, and don't release it until it's completed.

It's that easy.

I have a related question: why would you call everyday? I don't see why a person would make the ressies day by day. someone explain to me what I am missing here, please.

The logic behind day by day calling is that if you are trying to ensure your chosen size of villa and dates of travel, and you're concerned that there may be high demand for them, you would want to call each day to make sure you obtain *that* day. Since you can only book 11/7 mos. from your check-out day, each day you add is one "check-out day" further than your last day reserved. Clear as mud?

Ok, so once they connect all the days together, they will be in the same room?? Can it be that you may have to move to another room??

The same reservation is extended each day, so there is only one reservation number, so you would not have to move.

I did this for BWV Standard view for December, which is very popular. My reservation was for Dec 7 to 13. If I would have waited until Jan 14 (the 13th was a Sunday), the first few days could already be soldout from people whose vacations ended on those days. It's also a common practice for Grand Villas and Hilton Head in the summer.

I reserved VWL day by day for President's week, which is a very popular time with us northeasterners. When I reserve for the summer, I don't do day b day because I'm more flexible.

The day by day plan is most important if you are traveling in a low point season and high occupancy DVC time or hard to get unit. I have only used this tactic twice. Once when we were going at Holiday time, and once when we wanted a GV starting on Jan. 1st.

thanksgiving week is very popular with DVC owners - so the only way I know to get it is day by day.

Until this year - the 11th month rule work great for my December stay - but MS told me that they already had a great response for December so I did that one day at a time. Yes it is a pain - but if you really want to go during the end of November or the first two weeks of december - you don't have many choices.

when you decide to go call MS 11 month from your first day - MS will tell you if they are already having a bunch of calls for that time period. If not - then wait until 11 months from your last day

What I did for my May OKW reservation at 7 months last fall is call the first day and ask what availability looks like. They told me it was wide open, so I just waited until the 7 month final checkout day and made the whole reservation at once.

When I made my last day for my December reservation a couple of weeks ago I asked the cm if he thought it was really necessary to call everyday and he told me yes for a standard view. Someone posted on another thread that my first 3 nights are soldout (1 bedroom) so I'm glad I did.

Seems to me then that this really applies to certain rooms and resorts. Would I be correct in saying that standard view BWV during Nov-Dec and GV at OKW would be examples?? We just booked our first DVC vacation at VWL for Nov 28-Dec 12 and got a 2bdr and a studio and was pretty easy.

To ease some of the anxiety of booking for new members like me, could we please start some type of thread as to what the busy times of year for DVC is and what rooms go first?? I am going to guess that DVC busy times have no correlation to WDW busy seasons so the various guidebooks out there don't help(Birnbaum, Rita Aero, etc). Thanks a million!!

You are right about DVC and regular resorts having different busy times. DVC will be busy when points are less. That is why December is so difficult. The first couple weeks of Dec. are low points and members can still do all the holiday things at WDW. That is why they are harder to get. Standard view any size and GVs at Boardwalk are also difficult because there are few of them. OKW GVs are easier at some times because there are more of them, but difficult during low point seasons. Holidays are busy everywhere, but DVC has a high point cost at that time.

We are calling day by day right now (BWV), with tomorrow a.m. being the 11 month mark for New Years Eve. My husband said that when he finally got through at 9:10 this a.m., all the standard views were gone. Luckily, we're going with preferred, but it is awfully expensive. We taking friends so we need a 2 BR, that's 362 points for five nights. Yikes! I hope it's worth it.

Does anybody know how many rooms the BWV has, and the breakdown of them?
