My DH and I are probably in the minority with this tip. Day before we leave we take off work and not only finish the last the minute things but we rest and relax. We do last minute details like stop the mail, secure the house, take dog to the sitters stop newspaper, but we also sleep in and try not to overdo it as we take early morning flights. If we leave on a weekend this is not problem but we tend to leave midweek, so we normally take a day before we go and a day after we get back to recuperate. Both DH and I have been in our jobs a long time and have a good amount of time off, I know this is not possible for everyone. Does anyone else do this and take a day before you leave to get set to go.... :sunny:

We left right from work at 4:30...either to start a 21 hour drive or to drive to Buffalo to spend the night before we fly out early the next morning. We like to start the holiday immediatley...lol

However, I will agree at the end of the vacation no matter what holiday we take we are always home on the Sat to have Sunday to rest and relax before we go back to work Monday.

Our flight leaves at 5:00pm on a Friday. I took the day off to finish up last minutes things. My son is going to school so that he can get all of his spring break homework packets.

We're returning on Saturday so that he'll have time complet whatever homework he didn't do during the trip. I return to work 9 days after our trip. Plenty of time to rest up and start hunting down good airfare for the next trip. :cool1:

We leave Saturday morning (Nov.19) and I have taken off Friday so that I can do last moment things. And just relax.

We come back on Friday (Nov. 25) So I have the weekend to rest.

We leave this Saturday, and I took Friday off. We do basically the same thing ~ take dog to the kennel, pack last minute things and carryons, do all laundry, clean and vacuum the house, etc. This time, I'll also be making Easter baskets while the kids are in school so I can hide them (the Easter bunny hides the Easter baskets in our house) right before we leave because we fly home Easter Sunday morning. We also take the day after our trip off to unpack, pick the dog up from the kennel, go grocery shopping, etc. :wave2:

I couldn't agree with you more. Why not just take it easy the day before. I don't want to be at work the day before vacation. I do what you do and get my last minute things done. I was going back and forth about taking the day off before we leave on our trip in May, which is a Wednesday. I was going to work a half day but then I figured what's the sense in doing that. I'll be mad that I even bothered coming in to work. I'll just stay home and straighten and clean up the house. It won't bother me because I know that we'll be relaxing and taking it easy while on vacation and I like coming home to a neat and clean house. Then I also like to take a day off after we get back because who wants to be thinking about going to work the next day while you're on your way back on the plane. Plus I use that day to go over the mail and get the laundry done.
