Tying up all the loose ends!
On Saturday we slept late -- well, late for me anyway. It was going to be a busy day. I looked out our window and it looked like rain. And so it did -- poured off and on all day long. It was going to be a pancho day for sure.
Donning the bright yellow panchos, we started by heading to the Studios which were already open (it was their EE day). There were several pictures I wanted to get and one loose end -- or rather a goal to accomplish. We got the pictures and then came the loose end -- riding RnR for the 1st time.
I am not a coaster fan and it took several trips and a lot of arm-twisting by my MIL to get me on Space Mountain. I'd deliberately skipped RnR each trip, until now. I decided this trip was now or never. So I headed toward the line which despite EE was way too short for me. Oh well... get in, keep walking, try to stay calm. When asked by the CM how many in my group, at that very moment my voice cracks and out comes a squeaky "1". I could tell the CM was doing he best to keep from busting out laughing.
Anyway, I climb in, establish a firm death grip, close my eyes and prepare to die.
Well, I managed to survive RnR and after coming out, I found my DW who helped me to a bench. After several minutes she got my fists unclenched, my eyes open again and sometime later that morning I think I stopped screaming.
(BTW, DW decided to sit this ride out again this year, as she did when MIL dragged by poor carcass onto Space Mountain!)
Needing a sedative, we decided to take one more spin through the Great Movie Ride. The only problem was I kept screaming for the CM to "slow down!"
We snagged some more photos, checked out the pins once more, grabbed an early lunch at the Commisary -- not great, but filling.
On the afternoon of our last full day, we always head to DTD. It's sort of a tradition with us; pick up some final souveniers. hunt for new pins, snack around, and maybe in the evening catch a movie or visit PI. Little did I realize that 2/3 of those staying at the resort had the same plan. The parking lot was a zoo and given the heavy rain, it was tough going finding parking.
We usually start in World of Disney, then work our way around the east side. I had a hard time resisting the draw of Pin Traders, but we finally got there. We did 3 Build-A-Pins and found a few new pins we had not seen in any of the parks.
We stopped by Gharidelli's for an ice cream treat -- yum. Even in the rain and damp cool air, it was still fun. We headed out to Disney Days of Christmas store -- boy was that place mobbed. It was practically wall-to-wall people with long, snaking lines at each register. Each trip we buy a Christmas ornament to remind us of that vacation. I also bought DW a new Christmas stocking as her old one was in sad shape.
We spent about 25 minutes waiting in line -- just our luck to choose the line with the new CM bearing the tag below his name -- "Earning my ears". Oh well, patience is a virtue I need to build more of...
When we got back outside, the storm decided to open up full force. We headed over to the west side to do a little more shopping. Finally, somewhat soaked and pretty well shopped out, we headed back to the BC. A couple of hot showers and a change of clothes and we were pretty ready for our dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse.
After dinner we went back to the lounge for a glass of wine and some reflection on our magical vacation. We dropped off a few items with the concierge for shipping then went downstairs. The storm seemed to take a break for Illuminations, so we sat on a very damp beach and watched the fireworks one more time.
Finally, rather tired and facing a noon flight home the next day, we decided to head to our room and get some sleep. As we walked back, we remembered how truly magical our vacation was. It was one surprise after another and none of them were asked for or expected. It made us feel exceptionally lucky to have hit the jackpot on Disney magic.
