Day 5 - October 8, 2003

Participants:

Myself - KCDISDAD
DW - Joann, lovely wife of 22 years
DD7 - The one with the attitude
DD5 - The shy and slow one

Once again my day started out before dawn with the paper and coffee down in the lobby. I love my morning time. This seems to be Dad time in general as I saw several fathers with their infant children down in the lobby, giving the rest of their families a little extra rack time.

An interesting and disturbing sight this morning from our balcony overlooking the Otter Pond at WL-there were 2 workers trapping an alligator that they carried off. It was about a 5-foot gator and the girls were worried that he had eaten the otters. I assured them that otters were very clever and quick and probably got out of harm's way in plenty of time. Let's hope.

Today it was off to MGM and we got a late start as planned, but we paid the price; the park was pretty crowded. We started at GMR and both girls cowered at the scary scenes, but came to life when The Wizard of Oz and the Disney movies were featured. Then it was over to Ariel's Adventure which was a little disappointing to Joann and I. Then came the inevitable unplanned seperation. I went to the restroom facilities and Joann and the girls went where?... The restroom, shopping, where? I staked out their last known whereabouts and paced, and paced, and paced some more. We had forgotten to establish a meeting point in this park, like we had at the others. Don't forget to do this, it saves a lot of gray hairs and several BP points.

When we finally met back up it was off to the ABC Comi$$ary for lunch. Right after lunch I went for FP's to Millionaire while Joann took the girls to the HISTK Playground. Maybe it's just me, but this park is not laid out near as methodically as the others. There seem to be a lot of dead ends and areas to cut through.

Millionaire was exciting-at the 32000 point level I was 2nd in line for the next hot seat. I was already thinking about that Cruise for reaching the 1MM point level when CRASH-I blew the next question dealing with Dusty Springfield's real name(who in th %#@% is Dusty Springfield?). Maybe next time.

I couldn't convince Casey to ride RNRC with me and it was just as well. I think she could have handled the accelerated start and loops, but the fact that most of it takes place in the dark probably would have put her over the edge. I thought it was a great ride.

Joann and Amy went to look at more Pin$ while Casey and I went to ride TT. Unfortunately all the FP's were gone and the wait was 70 minutes (where are these low Oct crowds we read about?). We settled for a pop$icle while we waited for Joann and Amy. We all went to see Beauty and the Beast Live. The show was done well but paled in comparison to Lion King. We especially got a kick out of the pre-show (that's all I'll say so as not to ruin it for anyone).

We decided to call it a day after this (it was very hot and humid today) and head back to the Lodge. The girls and I went on our Treasure Hunt for Majestic's box and a swim, while Joann got some down time with her book. We tried the quiet pool by the Villas, but it was several degrees cooler than the big pool. When we got over to the Main pool the girls got a big kick out watching a baby bunny right next to them, and then giggled hysterically when the ducks decided to get in the pool with them.

We thought about going out somewhere for dinner but opted instead for staying at the Lodge and eating again at WC. This time we ordered off the menu and Joann and I were disappointed in our meals. My chicken wings were a cross between Teriyaki and Cajun (both of which I love), but the flavors didn't mix well together. Joann's meatloaf just lacked any flavor. Oh well, the kids had a ball putting their bandana/napkins on their heads like scarves and sticking straws in them. A waiter called them porcupine heads which they thought was hilarious. The family at the table next to us ordered water and were brought a bucket big enough to bathe in. Even Amy joined in the Stick Pony Races and the Hokey Pokey (what's this...our shy one making a scene in front of strangers?)-a true testament to the Disney Magic.

After dinner we went through a pocketful of quarter$ in the arcade and explored the fifth floor in detail. The girls have started repeating a saying they made up- "This isn't a dream hotel, this is a DREAM COME TRUE HOTEL" (then they hug as only 2 sisters can). What a true statement, and it became our family motto for the rest of the trip.

::yes::

Just as we were settling into bed we heard music coming from outside; it was the Electric Pageant Parade on Bay Lake. We rushed down the hall, PJ's and all (I wonder how this behavior would go over in a Marriott in Manhatten?) and went out on a balcony we had discovered on our earlier exploration. We watched the entire parade and the girls ended it aptly with..
"this is not a dream hotel, this is a DREAM COME TRUE HOTEL.":sunny:

awesome, awesome, awesome trip reports!! Your family is so very beautiful and I am really enjoying hearing all about your wonderful trip. My DH and I stayed at the Wilderness Lodge Villas this summer (without the kids!) and thought it was truly beautiful. I agree with you -- Dream Come True Hotel!

I love reading your reports, thanks so much!

"Wishin' and Hoping..."

"You don't have to say you love me, just be close at hand..."

"The only person who could ever reach me, was the son of a preacher man..."

NOW do you know who Dusty Springfield is? ;)

Where is this balcony that you found to see the parade??

Love the reports..keep them coming..I may have to 'postpone' our trip to the Lodge and I'm just devastated so I need to read other families happiness!!

Ahhhhhh....That's Dusty Springfield.

The balcony on the fifth floor is between the North & South wings right above the lobby looking out towards the pool and Bay Lake.

It's amazing how many little "secret" balconies and quiet little areas there are in this hotel. I know we only found a fraction of them.

Wonderful trip report ~ Thanx for sharing.

it is amazing the difference of going to disney with or without children.......we loved bringing our grandkids with us......thanks again.....you and your family......what a nice photo

I agree with you about MGM, seems we always end up on the New York Street heading toward the fake buildings when we realize it's a painting!!!
