Day 5 – Light on the Parks, Big on Fun

Cast of Characters: Me and Uncle Albert, my wonderful DH
Resort: Beach Club

No Stitch/Mickey wake-up call on Day 5. However, we woke up around 7:00 anyway. For breakfast, we went to the Yacht Club Galley, which is quick walk from the Beach Club. It was pretty good; Uncle Albert liked it better than I did. He got a salmon bagel w/capers. I had eggs with breakfast potatoes and fruit. The eggs were pretty good, but the potatoes weren’t really done and they put a lot of onions on it. I’m not into onions first thing in the a.m. It was pleasant enough. After breakfast, we changed into out bathing suits and hit Stormalong Bay. SO MUCH FUN! Once again, it seemed as though we were in there for 1/2 hour or so, but in reality it was a few hours. The water, although refreshing, was a bit warm and a lot of the guests were complaining about it. We, however, were so happy to be there and love Stormalong Bay so much it didn’t matter to us. After a lovely morning at the pool, we went back to the room to discuss lunch. We decided to call and get a PS @ Le Cellier and did so much to my surprise with no problem. Of course we showered first, then we headed to the world showcase entrance.

As we entered, the CM at the gate asked my husband is he was Usher. Well, obviously he isn’t but I think Uncle Albert enjoyed the compliment. He doesn’t look a thing like Usher, but he is in great shape now so I’m certain his head swelled at that very moment. We were seated immediately at Le Cellier. Let me tell you, I know Canadians are use to the cold, but it was so frigid in that place it was almost unbearable. Yuk! A couple of times we would, one at a time, walk outside for a few minutes to soak up some warmth just to make it through the meal. The meal….okay here goes. First, I must state that I love Le Cellier, always have. We’ve always had great food and exceptional service there. As far as food, I goofed this time. I ordered a tenderloin salad but my brain was obviously not functioning due to the cold because the menu clearly stated that it came with sesame dressing which would allude to the fact that it was an Asian-influenced dish, right? Dumb-bell here didn’t catch that. I was thinking “sesame seeds.” Good grief. The only Asian food I like is edamame and sushi. I didn’t like mine very much but my DH loved his. He got a soft shell crab sandwich with a tomato & cucumber salad. He loved his. The service was ultra-slow. I mean sloooooooow. Several people came in after us, got seated, and got out of there before we did. In an effort to warm up, I decided to order a cappuccino. Well, I waited and waited and the waiter said the machine was “warming up.” I waited and waited so I told him just to give it to me in a to-go cup. He said, “Well it’s still warming up, I think it’s broken.” After waiting forever for our checks, we finally left the frigid North and walked into the hot Florida sunshine. AHHHHH. Much better.

We walked over to France and saw some entertainment already in progress. . It was a "waiter" and a “guy from the audience” who was really in the show….they did an amazing balancing act with chairs and handstands. Very impressive. After that show we strolled through stopping to shop here and there. Didn’t buy anything, just looked. In Morocco, we found these beautiful, colorful lamps. Almost bought one too. We were headed for the China pavilion to see the acrobats. They were absolutely terrific. The last show we saw in China consisted of adorable little boys, these were girls and they were equally as adorable and talented. I was most amazed by the girl who balanced layers of glasses, filled with juice on her nose while climbing up a ladder. We thorough enjoyed the show, hot as it was.

After the show, we headed over to the Living Seas to see Turtle Talk with Crush. No, we don’t have kids, but we don’t need kids. We are kids. What a great idea this is. Crush is adorable and cute and we loved the show. The kids were cute, but someone please tell me why they all of a sudden get real quiet when Crush asks them a question. They throw their hands up like they just gotta’ talk to him and when they get the chance….NOTHING. They say absolutely nothing. I can see how amazing this would be to a child. It’s like you get to talk to an actual star. Maybe that’s it; maybe the kids are star-struck when Crush asks a question. Whatever the reason, we loved the show and vowed to see it again before our vacation ended.

After another ride on Spaceship Earth (we rode it on a previous day of the trip), we headed for the monorail. We had PS @ California Grill @ 5:30. When we made the transfer from the Epcot monorail to the resort monorail we stumbled upon one of the best CM’s we had ever encountered in our 11 years of visiting WDW. He was talking to the guests, cracking jokes, smiling and shaking hands. He said “does anyone have any questions while we wait on the monorail?” He treated everyone at the TTC as if they were his family. As the monorail glided off, my DH looked out the window at him and said he still had the smile on his face. It wasn’t an act, what a happy and wonderful CM.

We arrived at the CR to check in for our ressie about 15 minutes late. No worries. Up the elevator we went to the California Grille. I like the way you check in on the 2nd floor and they take you up in the elevator. We were seated at a window table on the WL side of the hotel. I couldn’t stop looking out the window and pointing out such landmarks as Spaceship Earth, The Swan, the Dolphin, WL. I couldn’t keep my eyes or my attention on the task at hand…dinner. But when I did finally get dinner, I could think of nothing else. DELICIOUS is putting it lightly. We ordered sushi which of course came out first. It was hands down the best quality sushi I have ever eaten…anywhere. My DH tells me the sushi chef there is famous. Famous or not, I loved it. I had goat cheese ravioli and my DH had a mushroom stack, which was kind of like mushroom lasagna. Both dishes were wonderful. The service was top notch. And I had the best cappuccino, which, by the way, came to me quickly. The machine didn’t have to “warm up.” At a certain point when the sun was shifting in the sky, they lifted all the blinds. WOW. That’s all I can say is WOW. I told my DH that we would never come to WDW and not eat at CA Grille. Never. The waitress told us we could come back later in the evening and simply show our dinner receipt and they would let us come back up to watch the fireworks from the observation deck. Sounded like a plan to me!

But, the next order of business had already been planned out. The Campfire Singalong folks, yes indeedy. We caught the boat from the CR to FW and walked to the site of one of the most fun, juvenile things to do at Disney. The Campfire Singalong. We held out on dessert at the CA Grille because we had Smores on the brain. We had done the singalong once before a couple of years ago and the most wonderful CM was the host. We even remembered her name, Sundee. My DH said, wouldn’t it be something if Sundee were there tonight? GUESS WHAT? She was! What a treat. We told her hello and that we remembered her and she said to me, “Too bad you have to walk around with this handsome man young lady.” I took her picture with my DH. She was blushing all over. We made smores, ate too much, felt sick but it was all worth it. I love the vibe at Fort Wilderness. Kids are riding bikes, throwing Frisbees, and everyone seems like family. The smell of folks cooking out, the crickets chirping, what a great way to end a full day of fighting crowds at the parks. Not that we had been doing that on this particular day, but I can imagine how relaxing it would be after a long hot day at the MK. We didn’t stay for the movie because we had a date with Wishes high atop the Contemporary Resort. So we walked back towards the boat launch. First we stopped by the horse barn so I could kiss and pet a few horses. I always miss my own horses so much so I call this my “horse fix.” I love the smell and I have to get my fix every trip. It’s like an addiction. I’m addicted to two things: horses and Disney. No, three. Uncle Albert makes three.

We got ate up by mosquitoes while waiting on the boat. But what was in store for us was worth becoming a bug’s dinner. Up the elevator we went once more to the top of the CR. We had about a 20-minute wait for Wishes. The view was enough to keep us busy. We could hear the announcement from the MK that Wishes would start in 5 minutes. In case you folks don’t know, the CR pipes in the music for Wishes from this location…probably from inside the restaurant too. We were blown away – it was truly magical. The only problem was a few drunks. Yes, I said drunks. These people had obviously had way too much to drink and they were loud and obnoxious, kind of spoiling the magic. So, Uncle Albert sang real loud pretty much right in their faces and made them feel uncomfortable. They were very rude and loud and one was even a CM. Not on duty, but she was talking about her training at the Disney University. Oh well, folks can &$#@ up a wet dream can’t they. We enjoyed it despite these crazy people.

All of a sudden we remembered that we didn’t drive so we would have to take the dreaded bus back to the Beach Club. I was filled with dread, as was Uncle Albert. But, guess what, it wasn’t that bad. We caught the first bus, standing room only, and were back at the BC in no time flat.

Off to sleep once again to dream Disney dreams only to wake up in total bliss once again Update on the rash: it was almost non-existent by this point.

Stay tuned for Day 6.

Well, I'm not so great at it - I make so many typos but I'm glad you enjoy them. I have 3 more days to go. Hoping to write Day 6 today. Day 7 was probably our most fun day - can't wait to write and relive that one.

Have a good day.
