Day 4 -- Sunday March 11
Cast:
Me, DH K-man, DS J-boy (age 5), and DS The Beast (age 2, almost 3)
The whole family sleeps in to about 7:00. Really, with preschoolers, thatâÂÂs sleeping in.
After breakfast in the room we go outside to play on the beach with construction toys. K-man decides to walk to the Boardwalk to see when we can get a Surrey Bike, and I watch the kids.
Now, confession time. I have a deep bird phobia. I am petrified of all birds (except maybe Tiki Birds). IâÂÂm convinced that behind their beady eyes they are thinking, â I want to peck your eyes out then carry away your children.â Birds.....yuck.
Well, itâÂÂs 8:00-ish, on Crescent Lake and the gulls and beady-eyed-black birds are awake and ready to torture me. The Beast dumps the toys in the sand, I approach the beach chairs, the birds descend. ThereâÂÂs a âÂÂgoth-chickâ teenager feeding them. Grrr....
Well, I freak out. Another mom walking by asks her 2 girls to help the Beast pick up the toys. HeâÂÂs confused, but the other Mom looks understanding. (Bless her heart, whoever she is.) We gather up the toys. IâÂÂm shaking, but am together enough to find a bench away from beach and trees and let the boys play on the sidewalk and grass.
K-man returns, sees where weâÂÂre sitting, and figures out what has happened. Since Surrey BikeâÂÂs arenâÂÂt available until 11:00, and IâÂÂm too tense to be around these aggressive birds, he suggests riding a boat to MGM and back just to see the sights. (The captain of the boat is hand feeding the beady-eyed-black-birds. Grrr....)
Since thereâÂÂs a long line to get on at the Swan / Dolphin, we decide to get off there and look around. The beach there is deserted, and sans birds (except for the Swan shaped boats, which only remind me of TolkienâÂÂs elf-queen Galadriel, so thatâÂÂs ok).
The kids play at the playground while we take turns laying on hammocks and touring the Grotto Pool. Every once in a while J-boy runs to the hammock and whispers in my ear, âÂÂWeâÂÂre saving the Earth. ItâÂÂs a secret.â TheyâÂÂre having a ball.
The S/D looks great. IâÂÂd stay there. Nice pool, great location, no birds.
On the walk back to the YC, we see a family on a Surrey Bike, even though itâÂÂs not 11:00. So we change directions a bit, and rent a bike.
The Beast wants to drive. But finally agrees to get into the front basket, but it takes some convincing. HeâÂÂs not known as the Beast for nothing. We make 2 circuits around Crescent Lake....and IâÂÂm proud to say that we never had to get off the bike to push! It was close one time, but we make it.
We walked back to YC, got on bathing suits and hit Storm-Along Bay. This pool is amazing. K-man and I take turns trying out the ship wreck slide, while the boys are happy in the sand bar pool. J-boy is âÂÂcookingâ by filling a bucket with sand. When quizzed, he says heâÂÂs making âÂÂfried rice, fried soup and french fries.â Hmmm.....IâÂÂm not exactly sure how to fry soup, but he was having a seriously good time.
We just get sandwiches at Hurricane HannahâÂÂs for lunch. IâÂÂm a little leery about eating outside, with the birds (and after reading Joe DisneyâÂÂs reports of actual food stealing birds), but I swallow my fear and eat quickly. We swim a little bit more, and follow up lunch with ice cream from Beaches and Cream. We get 3 scoops total, and split them 4 ways. Just enough.
Back at the room, there is a Pluto, Wormy, Mickey diorama, with Mickey trapped on the headboard with Pluto and Wormy trying to get him. Also there is a washcloth peacock on the dresser. Thank, Virginia!
The boys nap, and I change our PS at the California Grill for Yachtsman Steak House. The CM asks me for my home phone number. I eagerly offer it, hoping that from that, theyâÂÂll get my address, and start sending me the coveted discount post cards. Fingers are crossed!
The Fairy Godmother sitter arrives very promptly at 5:30. Her name is Vivian, and sheâÂÂs grandmotherly. Vivian has a large tote bag of toys -- mega legos and trucks. The boys dive into new toys and we leave without even a look from them.
The YMSH is very expensive. IâÂÂm not used to spending this much for dinner. IâÂÂm not very comfortable, but finally we decide to split the 28 oz. Porterhouse. 28 oz. -- thatâÂÂs more meat than I typically feed my entire family!! I get the creamed spinach and K-man get veggie of the day. We top it all off with Apple Crisp for K-man and Cream Brulle for me. I quiz our server closely on the preparation of the Creme Brulle. IâÂÂve had really bad ones and really good ones. This was one of the good ones!
Everything was dee-lish! WeâÂÂre stuffed.
The original plan had us going to PI, especially for the AdventurerâÂÂs Club. But we decide weâÂÂre too sleepy and tired (read âÂÂold and parentsâÂÂ) to really enjoy, so we head to DD. I had the 10% coupon from the Magic Kingdom Club burning a hole in my pocket!
It was tough, but we finally settled on some Christmas ornaments. We honestly didnâÂÂt find anything that we absolutely fell in love with. Oh well. Less to pack.
After watching the high Illumination fireworks from the bridge between BW and BC, we go back to the room, pay Vivian, and turn in for the night.
Tomorrow -- Cape May Breakfast, Play Mobil Store at the Florida Mall and home. Too fast, itâÂÂs gone too fast.
