Day 2 – Magic Kingdom & Chef Mickey’s
Cast:

Me - mother and dutiful wife…and biggest kid of them all!! 34
DH – Affectionately known as Squirrel…ageing punk rocker and tattoos to book…40
DD – our princess Millie…..6, and turns 7 in WDW!

Hmm…trouble sleeping…BIG TIME….DH & I woke up virtually every hour from 2 am onwards!...so we finally gave in and got up at 4.45,,,Millie was still soundo. We planned to be up by 5.30 anyway to grab brekkie and catch EE for Magic Kingdom. DH & I showered and before we knew it the “wake up” call rang….this woke Millie from her slumber and I said it would be a good idea if she answered it! Her face was a picture!!! “Mummy, mummy…it’s Mickey! He knows I’m here”……well, that woke her up good and proper!

I had been out onto our landing a couple of times to have a ciggie and boy was it chilly…BUT…I was aware that the mornings can be a tad cold but that it warms up around lunch time(YEAH, RIGHT?!)…so, following my lead we dressed in ¾ trousers, T shirts and wore hoodies. Millie was soooo pleased with her Pal Mickey!...but I forgot the belt clip so she made so with carrying him today.

Off to the food court and it was so quiet @ 6.45am!...breakfast had . (And yes, Millie adopted an awful habit of having doughnuts for breakfast!....well, we were on holiday?!)..DH went off to deposit the re-fill mugs back in our room and he arranged to meet me & Millie at the bus stop. 1 Magic Kingdom bus……arrived….went, 2nd bus…arrived and went…….Hmmm…….DH appears to be lost!! 20 minutes later he turns up!!! LOL, he got lost! By this time we were VERY cold……

The bus was pretty quiet and we were starring out of the window waiting for our first glimpse of the castle…and there it was! Big grins all round  I had explained to Millie about early entry and that it would be a good idea to hit Space Mountain etc. first before it got too busy….she was fine with that 

Arrived at the bus terminal, walked up the entrance and we were in! YAY…..brrrrrr…and we were COLD! First stop was a shop in main street and we bought Millie a zip up hoodie to wear over the hoodie she was already wearing and a quick walk up main street…..headed over towards tomorrowland and we spotted Alice & the Mad Hatter all by themselves by the castle…..first autographs to be sought! Millie loved Alice but was quite unsure about that Mad Hatter (he was mad!)

....notce how Millie is not standing near the Mad Hatter!

She was sooo pleased – I was amazed at how in character they were and Millie was convinced they were the real McCoy….bless 

Straight over to Space Mountain – now I really was not sure about this being Millie’s first “big” ride…she’s not too fond of dark and noisy things…hmmmm….I had hoped to have done Big Thunder Mountain first to get her in the mood for these kind of rides. However, I had noted that this one does not have a loop in it (as DH & I had been to DL Paris). The queue was very short and I kept Millie interested in the Space theming and was telling her how nice Walt Disney was and that he would never build anything that scared people in a bad way and that there’s a “good” scared too……the closer we got I could see she was getting more anxious…..but I laughed and joked with her and Pal Mickey was a godsend. Next Hurdle….gulp….single riders. There is NO WAY Millie will sit by herself on this ride!!! So I pointed out to her the other young children in the queue and she was OK. We’re at the front of the queue and we are right in the front! DH was in the first seat, Millie in the middle and mummy in the 3rd. The ride was amazing….I was sure Millie would hate it! She came off all smiles and LOVED it !!! DH said that sat right at the front was very intense!

Next we headed over to Stitch…..we were in fits at this and Millie really thought Stitch was bouncing on her and sniffing her – really giggling. We are all huge Stitch fans and thoroughly enjoyed this. I can see that it could be scary for younger ones though! Again, I was amazed at Millie, I would say that even last year she would have hated this – due to the dark parts of the ride/show…but it went down really well. Buzz was next….Millie didn’t really want to do this…but she was fine as she understood that we all wanted to do things and if someone wanted to do a ride then we’d all do it – a theory we stuck to all holiday and worked really well … Again, we all loved this!!! DH & I had the guns and Millie was in charge of the spinning –giggling like crazy…especially towards the end when “she made” us go really fast through space – LOL, bless, she thought her spinning made us whiz through space – great touch to the ride.

I must add that the queues were non existent!

It was still very early and we wanted to head over to Frontierland for Splash & Big Thunder so we walked from tomorrow land into Toon town….via the back way….as we planned to catch the train from there to frontierland…..as we were walking along an empty path we saw Baloo heading right for us!!!! I LOVE Baloo…we all had big hugs (trying to get warm)….more magical grins all round….we seriously felt like we were the only people in the park.

We got to toon town at a couple of minutes to 9am……walked up to Minnie’s house and waited….the rope was dropped and then we saw Pooh, Minnie etc…walking up from the castle with a small crowd. We followed Donald into Minnie’s house and we were in hysterics watching him wiggle his bum….Millie was having a serious giggling fit!

Pictures taken with Donald and Minnie….out of the house then back in…..I asked Millie who she wanted to see? Princesses (a small queue had formed) or Pooh & Eeyore….to my complete surprise she said Pooh!!!! (YAY!)….we had pics with Pooh…such a cuddly tum….then dear old Eeyore….then mad old tigger who was funny with Millie….daddy had his pic with Tigger too!. Out of the house …..”Who now poppet…Princesses or Mickey?”….”MICKEY!!” she shouted with a huge grin! (OK, now I am starting to worry….she’s not bothered with the princesses and we have CRT booked for her birthday….”O bother”)…..virtually no queues for the Big Cheese……I found it so cute that the other characters had left the front page of her autograph book blank for Mickey to sign. He made a real fuss of her and loved her pal Mickey….Bless, she was grinning from ear to ear…looking so proud!

We then went on Goofy’s barnstormer which was fun then we headed over towards the train when we saw Mary Poppins!!! Only 2 in the queue for her…..so another autograph and a lovely chat and hug with Mary……and Millie did tell Mary that her daddy calls her “Scary Bobbins”…..more giggling fits and Mary and the CM were laughing too! We then jumped on the train to Frontierland.

Still very cold! We had to….didn’t we??? YES!!!! We walked right onto splash mountain (surprise surprise)…..what a lovely ride….this was mine and Millie’s fave ride. Millie sat with DH and I sat on my lonesome at the back…..don’t ask me how but they ducked….I didn’t and got SOAKED!!!! More giggling fits from Millie & DH! We have found our laughing place, that’s for sure! I’m still puzzled as to how they knew when to duck – I had done the Disney research…not them ?!

We then took a leisurely stroll over to Big Thunder – first wait of the day….10 mins!! (Shocking, fancy having to queue?!!! TUT)…another fab ride.

The hunger bugs were starting to nibble so we ate at Peco Bills …YUMMY…the shredded pork was scrumptious…Millie had hot dog and she loved her Mickey plate!!...We had done the big three so we really slowed down now and just trundled along and ended up wherever the paths took us. We knew we were coming back here on Millie’s birthday so we purposely aimed to leave Fantasyland and the parades for then.

We walked into Adventureland and queued for the Pirates of the Caribbean - 20 mins this time! Deary me LOL. DH & I had done this at Paris and this was so much better! Millie wasn’t sure of the fire though and I explained to her that as I said before, it’s all pretend and that Walt Disney would not build such a magical park to REALLY scare and hurt people and that the scares were “good” scares ……
Spent some time in the shop after looking for pirate attire (for the pirates party on the cruise) so I sneakily bought us all an eye patch and earring hoop 

Went into the Tiki Birds after……didn’t know what to expect here as I had read mixed reviews about this……needless to say we all loved it! Not too sure what it was about but it was good fun!....

Walked through Adventureland and Millie was not bothered about the magic carpets …..SHE said the queue was too long!!!! LOL.

It was about 2.15 by now and so we decided to head over to Fantasyland…it was a lot busier here and we decided to see Mickey’s Philharmagic….20 mins queue…..WOW…..AMAZING! This was by the far the cutest, slickest, funniest 3d show of them all!!! A great way to introduce Millie to 3d shows……the highlight of the day for me. So so clever….I think Millie loved it more as she had already had a complete giggling fit at the “real” Donald earlier this morning! One person she was still itching to see was Pluto!...Popped into Tink’s shop and bought a Princess fleecy throw….it would be nice for her bed at home and would be pretty practical for now….blanket bought. Unwrapped. Wrapped around Millie’s shoulders! YUP, we were FREEZING!

It was now about 3.30 so we took a slow walk down main street…looking in the shops etc and headed over to the monorail….

Now I knew, again through this board, that you could ride up front with the driver but I didn’t want to get anybodies hopes up…so we went up to the station and the platform was virtually empty and the train was there…..”can we ride up front”….”you sure can” replied the CM!!!! YAY. We were all chuffed to get our “Co-drivers” cards.

We were early for our seating so we had a look around the shops – bought myself a nice warm fleecy jumper (planned to watch wishes from the balcony of the contemporary!) and waited for dinner. Also bought Millie a “Donald” keychain which she slipped into the small strap on the back of Pal Mickey then clipped it onto her bag 

We had our picture taken and were seated quite quickly – pretty quiet. Our hostess brought Millie out a special place mat, signed by all the characters for her Birthday (?!!)…Hmm…today is the 4th and her birthday is on the 11th?! LOL….they must have noted it for this PS booking as well as the PS for CRT on her birthday! I did tell our host of the mix up….but she said “so what….”…winked at Millie and told her she was special so she could have 2 birthdays! SO, what a surprise dinner this turned out to be! The food was YUMMY! Millie, as expected really, hardly ate a thing. The characters were fantastic – Chip and Dale were so funny – they kept dropping her pen…queue more giggling fits. …then out came the big cheese…the song and napkin twirling started and Goofy brought her a birthday cupcake and Millie went soooooo red with embarrassment …bless her! All the characters spent plenty of time with us – it was lovely.

Grins all round we then head out…..stop with a pic with chef Donald in the lobby and made our way to a sub zero balcony to watch wishes!!! The fireworks were fantastic and we plan to watch this in the park with the music etc.

We catch the monorail back to MK……head for a bus…..and we are back in our room and asleep by 8.30 pm.

AWESOME, yet cold, first day…tomorrow EE to Animal Kingdom…Spectromagic & Wishes….plus the hunt for Pluto!

Oh I can tell how magical this was for Millie (and you!) what a fantastic day you all had.

Your seeing and doing things in the MK for the first time and Millie's confidence that Alice and friends are the real thing make your reports extra fun to read. Thanks, too, for including the photos.

What a great start to your holiday, really enjoying reading your reports.
Do you know I have been to WDW 3 times and never been on the monorail yet!!!!! Shock... Horror...... Hopefully this year
