Day 1, Part 2 - Spectromagic and Wishes

At 5:00p.m. DH jumps out of bed because – YIKES WE OVERSLEPT! Picture the scene from “Home Alone” if you will. We rush to the bus stop – wait about 5 minutes for a Magic Kingdom bus and off we go.

We arrive at the Magic Kingdom right at 5:30p.m. – is there nothing more beautiful then seeing Cindy’s Castle? Nope. Nothing! I walk to Casey’s to stake a spot for the 4 of us. Suddenly I hear “That must be Amanda!” I turn around and there is Doreen and Todd – hugs of course for everyone. We stand, we talk a mile a minute. DH and I refused to wear winter coats (after all we are in Florida) so we are there with just long sleeves on and jeans so we are shivering to death. Doreen (always the Mom) tries to convince me to buy sweatshirts but I tell her “Nah! We will tough it out.” Doe and I ditch the boys to go get Princess Hats for ourselves and our friend Erin. We looked at several (and have pictures to prove it) but settled on some pink baseball caps with princess in bright pink glitter with a jewel for the dot on the “I”. Very classy! We had a ball in that shop though just laughing at all the hats and trying to see which one works the best. We skip back to the guys who have been guarding our spot. DH and I go and grab hotdogs, soda, and fries from Casey and enjoy. Yummy! Casey’s is a first for us and we give it 4 thumbs up! The guys decided to sit behind us so that a lady with 2 small children could sit next to us. Her kids were so cute and talkative. When SpectoMagic started it was just amazing! I’m not a parade person but I loved this parade – and enjoyed myself immensely. I’m so glad we extended our trip by one day so that we could see it. After the parade we stayed where we were to watch “Wishes.” The Mom with the 2 small kids put her son on her shoulders but her daughter was still standing on the street. DH felt bad and picked her up to watch the show. Doe leans over to me and says, “I’m going to crack up laughing when you post on the boards in 2 months that you are pregnant after this.” Thanks Doe! Love Ya, Mean it! J Have to admit though the sight of my handsome DH holding that little 4 year old girl in his arms while she just sat their mouth open to a small smile while she watched the fireworks did get the ole biological clock ticking – even though it was quietly…. The mom took a picture of it to show her husband (hehehe).

Wishes was incredible! I love that fireworks show! Great Great Great! And truth be told Casey’s is the best place to watch it from. After the show we said good-bye to DH’s new friend (who I think had a crush on him and who could blame her?) and grabbed chairs outside Casey’s and waited for the crowds to pass. By this time I am freezing and decide to go get a sweatshirt (Yes Doe was right!) I came back and was scolded for not getting DH one. Hehehe. After the crowds thinned the four of us made our way down Main Street commenting on how beautiful it was. We parted at the bus area – Doe and Todd were staying at the Swan which I heard was absolutely beautiful!
It was so awesome to meet Doe and her husband! Doe has been such an inspiration to me on the Wish board in losing weight and keeping with my plan. Her husband and her are just wonderful people and I feel blessed to have their friendship. The love and sentiment that Doe has for all of us really cannot be captured in our post on the boards – although she gets really close. You can tell how much she cares for us in her eyes and her warm hugs!

This was my favorite day of the trip!

LOVED hearing about Day 1 - can't wait to hear about the rest. I WANTED to stick around and be part of it, but reality called us back home on Monday afternoon.....sigh.

For those of you who haven't had the privilege of meeting Amanda, she and her DH Brian are so sweet and lots of fun. We chatted and laughed from 5:30 when we met (well, 5:45 - ummm, DH and I ALSO took a nap and overslept...LOL!) until we left each other at the bus stops around 9-ish.

We joked about the "little souvenir" WDW commercial.....hmmm, waiting for THAT post in another month or two Amanda!

By the way, Amanda did NOT buy a sweatshirt for Brian that night....poor guy! I'm waiting to see if she buys one later in the trip!

If you all think THIS meet was fun, just wait until all us WISHers descend on WDW next January for the half-marathon! I can't wait to see Amanda and Brian again! Next time maybe I'LL buy him the sweatshirt!

Yippee, Yippee, a hat for ME!!!! Even though I got the news about being included in the princess fashions last week when Doreen got home, Amanda, I'm still excited every time I hear about it. You guys are so sweet to me!!! Thank you!

It sounds to me like WDW will always be a special place for you and Brian. The second time DH and I went together--Jan. 1990, we were riding the bus back to our hotel when I told him I felt "bone tired." Not just I've-been-doing-WDW-commando-style tired, no this was different. A few days after we got home, I gave DH a baby Mickey stuffed toy that we had picked up and told him it looked like we'd be needing this. . .DD was born Oct. 3rd that year. While she wasn't a souvenir baby, WDW has been a part of her family history her whole life. Sounds to me like you and Brian will have lots of special memories there, too.
