Day 1 -- 9/18
After spending a brief but wonderful time with relatives, it was finally time to make our way down I-4 to the world where dreams do come true. Words cant describe the excitement you feel when passing under the Walt Disney World main entrance. With smiles on our faces, we proceeded to the POP Century resort. The resort itself is pretty cool to see, with all of the images & words on the outside of the buildings. We arrived around 3pm and quickly experienced our first no-wait line of the trip. I was then faced with the important decision of requesting a room.
Option 1: Go with the DIS suggestions and request the 50s section, top floor, facing the lake so we can see the fireworks & have peace and quiet
Option 2: Go for the 80s building and hopefully be close to the bus transportation to make the day ending walks a little easier.
I ended up going with Option #2 and let DD decide which floor she wanted to be on (of course she went with the top floor shes not the one who has to carry in all of the luggage). I also requested a non-pool view to keep some of the late night noise down. The nice girl behind the desk said that the request would not be a problem and promptly issued us our keys to the world and a map indicating our room #9425. We quickly parked our car in the 90s lot and ran up to our home for the next 6 nights. The room was right around the corner from the elevator and had a parking lot view. My daughter thought that it was soooo cool to be in the pac-man building and couldnt wait to walk inside of the giant Rubiks Cube that enclosed the staircase. After two trips to get the luggage in (who knew that we could pack so much stuff!) we realized that we needed to be on our way to the Grand Floridian to make her 4:30 hair appointment at the Ivy Trellis.
Remembering the most important goal of the trip, make DD feel like a princess we took the car over to the GF and made our way to the lobby.
The Ivy Trellis is located on the second floor and there we were greeted by Jackie, who I had previously spoken to on the phone. Jackie was awesome to say the least. She decided that DDs hair would be done in curls & a shimmering hair spray would be used to create pixie dust. In 30 min, my daughter was transformed into the most beautiful princess in the kingdom! She instantly looked 27 instead of 7. The girls in the salon are so nice & friendly I highly recommend this salon for anyone in need of a princess transformation.
We then took the elevator back the first floor and to the 1900 Park Fare where we had a 5:40 ADR. We checked in and met up with the Fairy Godmother who was hanging out in the restaurant lobby. We barely got our drink orders in before Suzy, Perla and Prince Charming showed up at our table for autographs and pictures. Dinner consisted of shrimp & asparagus alfredo, cheese tortellini, Caesar salad, fruit & strawberry soup for me .DD had pasta in olive oil, macaroni & cheese, corn, biscuits, salad and strawberry soup. One word of advice here the strawberry soup is awesome!! Our free meal plan savings was $49.80.
One of the highlights for the entire trip came during dinner. You see, DD and I had had a conversation a few weeks ago about the princesses. I was going on about them and she made reference to the fact that the princesses are actually just people dressed up. I tried to explain to her that they are real, and that the Disney movies are animations modeled after them. She didnt believe me. So, Cinderella visited us during the dinner, commented on how beautiful DDs hair was and had a short conversation. A few moments after Cinderella left our table, DD looked at me and said:
Daddy .Maybe the princesses are real
Insert Disney magic moment here. I smiled and gave her an I told you so. Those moments are the ones to treasure for a lifetime. I could have sworn I saw tinkerbell flying away & winking as the pixie dust settled on our table.
We finished the meal just in time to take a quiet stroll around the pool area and admire the view from the landing near Narcoossees before heading over to the boat area to meet up with fellow DISers for a Wishes Cruise.
Everyone was super nice and I have to say a special thank you to Tara (TSWJan78) who booked the cruise and offered the remaining spaces to the boards. Her generosity made for a huge highlight of the trip. Meeting everyone was great. We even had cake and drinks aboard to celebrate a honeymoon for two of the people on the boat. Needless to say, viewing Wishes from the lake is absolutely amazing. The music is piped in to the boat and the fireworks look incredible over the castle. Even more incredible was the fact that Taras then boyfriend proposed to her during the show .she accepted and congratulations were in order. DD thought it was so neat to see a real proposal.
We said our goodbyes and DD then had the choice of what to do next. She decided to go back to POP and check out the pool (so much for the awesome hairdo!).
We drove back to POP, changed into our swimsuits and went to the laptop pool that was real close to our room. Oh yeah, on the way up to the room, we heard some fireworks like explosions so we ran down the hall to the Rubiks Cube staircase and there we could see the Illuminations fireworks going off in the distance! I was quietly confident now, knowing that I had made the right room choice since we could now both see the fireworks and be close to the buses!
Now, back to the laptop pool .heated pools are awesome! After swimming for a few, we decided to pool hop and check out the hippy dippy pool. It was a little colder than the laptop pool was and we didnt stay long there as a result. On the way back, DD decided that she was done swimming and wanted to go check out the room translation: Im tired and want to go to bed.
She set up her stuffed animals (stuffies) on her bed and was asleep almost as soon as she lay down.
I checked out the TV for a few (cant stand the new girl on the Top 7 countdown! Bring back Krista!!!), noticed that the weather for Monday was going to be in the low 90s with no rain. I set the alarm for 7am & called the number to get a wake up call for 7am, thinking it would be neat for DD to hear Mickey wake her up!
Our trip was off to an incredible start Monday will bring our first trip to Animal Kingdom, our first use of Disney transportation & a dinner ADR at Alfredos.
