Aberdeen to Gatwick
Friday 5th July
Cast:
Me- Morven (aka Undylad)
Suzanne DW
Kerri DD (7)
Liam DS (5)
Up early, even for me (normally up for work at 5.45am) at 4:50am. Well, that was when the alarm clock went off. Got the children up, Kerri giving everyone the What time of day do you call this? look, if they dared look at her. After showers and Breakfast all round, we were in the car for 6:00am. We had a very uneventful run down the country until we got to the M62 turn off on the M6. Then I started asking the question Who decided to travel down the country on a Friday? Well. I knew that answer to that one - me. Doh.
It took at worst 3 hours to go 40 miles. It was excruciatingly slow all the way down. The torture lasted all the way down the M6 through Birmingham and onto the M42, things only slightly improving when we crawled onto the M40. Normal traffic conditions were experienced on the M25.
Eventually we arrived at the Gatwick Travellodge at 10pm. One very grump driver (me), two fantastically understanding children (they just seem to know when to behave) and one exhausted child wrangler (Suzanne) went to bed. Just before I succumbed to sleep, I made a mental note to not repeat todays experience ever again. I also hoped that thumping headache I had for the last two hours would be away in the morning.
Please note the use of Day 0 for today. We normally say that it is part of the holiday just getting there. Well, not this holiday. I insist things will improve tomorrow.
