David's Vacation Club vs Value Resort

depends upon this relationship with MS.

he can get anywhere points fairly easy - it is the 11th to 7th month out that he has problem getting. for BLT, BCV, and i think VWL

if he has a good relationship with Ms they can hold a reservation for him. but I remember a document that members had to sign agreeing never to cancel a reservation that he was using or quit paying maintence fees or even sell your points until this reservation was done.

Makes no difference what David's relationship is with Member Services, as he is not doing the booking the DVC member is.

He is simply the go between: between members wanting to rent their points and others wanting to rent them. I am sure David's record is excellent and he has a good relationship with the members he uses. But nothing is 100% fool proof and I guess a rogue member could take half the money and run.

As to his policy should this ever happen, I have no idea, that would be something the OP would have to ask David.

We rented points in June, and I must say, it was pretty awesome.

We didn't use David's, though, we used the DVC Store. They will make you a no obligation quote. It is my understanding that David's does not. We paid half when we signed the contract and the other half months later. We bought trip insurance to cover cancellations for emergencies, but we were going on the trip unless something really bad happened, so we were comfortable with this.

I believe that the reservation was made in Nov. for the following June. I still did my ADRs at 180 days in Dec., so I think that's right.

The reservation is made in your name. You can type in your name and info into Disney's system anytime to see the reservation. You can add dining anytime until 7 days before your reservation. The DVC member adds it for you.

We probably will never travel when free dining is offered since I am a teacher, so that was never a consideration. We had six people in our party, and we were able to get a two-bedroom villa at Kidani for the price of two rooms at Port Orleans. For us, it was a no-brainer.

The resort was wonderful. We didn't mind the lack of housekeeping. If fact, I've never felt I needed a maid in the room every single day anyway. We just pulled the comforter up everyday and hung up the towels. Having a toaster, fridge, and microwave for breakfasts and snacks is pretty sweet.

It is more like staying in an apartment. Of course, we had a washer and dryer in our room because it was a two-bedroom. It was nice to throw a load of laundry in at night if we wanted. We didn't have to hang out in a laundry facility.

I hope to return to WDW in about three years. I think I am spoiled. I am pretty sure I will do DVC again. All the perks are just too nice. We had as stress-free of a stay you can have at Disney.

Could you tell me what MS is? I'm not too good with abbreviations. :)

you would have to a DVC owner to know this one - Member Service - who DVC members call instead of Disney (don't remember the correct name of the travel service)

The one way we were able to offset the cost of using Davids and missing out on free dining was by signing the kids up for a YES class. With the tickets savings, and what we saved on the room it worked out to about the same as we would have paid for free dining at a mod. Of course this won't work if you don't have kids or can't go when class times are. The other option is if you have AP's or purchase AP's, and then rent from Davids and use Tables In Wonderland you might come out ahead there too. It's impossible to say because of all the individual scenarios, but I thought I would mention it if you hadn't considered those options:)

We have done the YES program, and I remember people saying that you could not get the dining plan with YES tickets since you didn't have a regular package. I realize that renting points is different though, so I was wondering if you can get the dining plan in this situation?

If the member you rent for is willing, you can add the dining plans. They have to book it for you and it must be paid in full at the time of booking. No tickets are required.

We just used Davids to book a studio at AKL for the weekend of the Princess Half Marathon (Feb). I thought it would be difficult to get a room, but it was so easy! I wanted a studio at BC, which they didn't have, but they came right back to me with other options, one being a deluxe studio at AKL with a Savannah view! If I was staying at AKL I wanted a view, so it was perfect, and it was cheaper than staying at POR! I am so excited to stay there in Feb! It seems like a no-brainer!

I should also say we have AP's and the Tables In Wonderland card and I have been very happy with the money I have saved!

If you go through David's and rent points where does one typically get tickets at for the parks? Are there Discounted tickets you can get anywhere? And if FREE dining comes out during your stay are you able to get it if buying points through David?

I think David sells discounted park tickets.
I have gotten discounted park tickets through AAA.
You cannot get free dining through David. DVC doesn't get free dining.

thank you...

what/where is the DVC store that missiouriprincess is talking about? I would like to get a no obligation price from someone just to weigh the differences.

We rented through David for our stay this past July. We bought tickets through Undercover Tourist with the mousesavers discount. We received the tickets in the mail very quickly and added them to our KTTW card when we arrived at BWV. So easy and convenient!

We used David's for our February (Beach Club) and April (SSR) trips and have nothing but wonderful things to say about him. I wanted to use him for our September trip but, at last minute, there wasn't much available that I wanted. So, we opted for the AP discount.

You don't need an official quote to see how much the DVC villa would cost. David's charges $13 per point. Simply go to the DVC point charts and add up how much your reservation would be.
