Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if anybody has or uses Davids for Deluxe Resorts?

Is this always better then the deals that Disney Throw out? Like they have a 30% off. Davids seems alot cheaper than going trough Disney

Thanks alot

Karlie:)

Hi karlie, i too was looking at davids. I have no experience with them but it seemed so much more economical to rent dvc points than pay for a mod or deluxe oop. Still tossing up options as to which way to go. Would love to hear other's thoughts on it too !

And if you use the RCI rental pool it's even cheaper, though you usually can't book as far in advance. eg David's has OKW Oct, 28, 2012 - Nov, 1, 2012 for $520 for a studio per night. RCI has it for $360 per night http://www.endlessvacationrentals.com/main.taf?erube_fh=rci&rci.submit.GetResort=1&rci.resortid=dv45 If you know anyone with an RCI membership they can even get better deals, eg if you know someone with a Trendwest/Worldmark membership they could get 7 nights for about $1200 or so, BUT it's a bit of work getting the exchange, and it may be limited to the less popular DVC resorts eg Old Key West or Saratoga Springs and smaller apartments, studio or 1bedroom. Larger and more popular resorts appear occassionally but it's a hell of a lot of work to get them I doubt you'd find many people that would be prepared to do that for someone else, plus if the week comes up you have to book it then sort out the airfare, it can be nerve wrecking.
For the easy option David's is the way :) Don't they run/host/closely related DIS or something like that?

For this upcoming trip I am renting points but not from David. I am going through DVC Rental.
there is also DVC Rental Store and Rent my DVC Points all of which are cheaper than David - but not as big. so perhaps they don't have the volume to get what you really want?

There are several chats boards for direct rental but I found it was a bit of a race to get the points before others so I went looking for a broker.
the discount is about 50% compared to the disney rack rate - so yes - cheaper than the usual general public/AP offers. (Although I note WDW UK is once again offering SSR & OKW at 35% off + free dining + 14 day ticket at 7 day price + $100 gift card - which may be getting close. I did this last year through a UK disney travel agent - too easy)

it really depends on when you want to go. There is a different dynamic to booking DVC than public discounts. e.g. the first week of Dec is "value" season and most rooms go (except SSR and OKW) at the 11 month mark - esp. VWL.

The other dynamic I discovered (is really hard to explain) - The bookings open but only for 7 day bookings. I wanted 8 days - the agent said he had to wait another day before he could book all 8 days and in that one day the AKV room I wanted was gone.

It is hard to split bookings. I don't think Disney are keen, but the agents all have minimums (like 3 days or 50 points)

I will do this again. And through an agent again - but only for 7 days! (did that make sense?)
give it a whirl - but get organised a year in advance - or stay at SSR

Imagine the chaos on DVC rental when GF gets DVC villas!

Well - DIS is the outlet of Pete Werner and Dreams Unlimited TA (which is why so many people know and use DU). I didn't think David was connected, other than buying advertising on the site. Perhaps someone knows for sure?

google is your friend and you will find lots of TAs and DVC agents

OT - Really? How did you do this? Did you need a UK address or did the TA fudge it up for you?

Also, with those links you need to spell out the addresses, as they're blocked from the dis :goodvibes

David would be fine, he is still dealing through DVC members. The DVC member still makes the booking. The important part is get in quick as the longer you leave it the less rooms are available and the choice of resort is lower.

You can deal through the disboards DVC trade rent section but you need to trust the seller. Pay more through David or the other places and you might feel safer.

I have done lots of rent outs and if I am borrowing the points from the next use year I ask for a refundable $500 deposit by Paypal before I make the booking. Most of them are in the US and they do not care about dealing with an Aussie. I do contracts and works well.

The busier times will be the hardest to get. There are only so many rooms available!!

I would not rent out under 50 points, not worth the effort involved.

Check the list for the DVC resorts, not all deluxe resorts are DVC.

That's a bit weird that DIS block out those URLS - BUT I CAN STILL READ THEM!! Sorry chaps - looked ok to me. :scratchin

OK so google for DVC*dash*rental*dot*com and
DVC*rental*store*dot*com (which looks REALLY good - (both of these do not charge $91 to check availability for you and rental store allows a payment system) AND
rentmydvcpoints*dot*com

And there are direct trading boards - here on the DIS and on *mouse*owners*dot*com forums.

(trying * to see if it will publish the addresses)

Re: the UK special - I used a UK disney authorised travel agent. Like most of the US agents - she runs a travel business with a speciality line in Disney. She had my Australian address and she did all the paperwork. so i don't know what happened between her and Disney. feel free to PM me

and I'll repeat ColinA's advice re: DVC - rather than sitting around waiting for a public offer, instead you have to get in at the 11 month mark and probably pay upfront. When the crowd calendar says Disney is quiet is when the DVCers come out to play cause they get best value for their points! so it is harder to get DVC rooms at that time. I am staying at SSR cause everything else was booked out for that 1st week of Dec. I have 3 days booked at AKV - in the room I originally wanted (a jambo value villa) - but it was available on an AP discount at only 30% off - so not as deep a discount renting points.

One day colin - I will align with your points and rent from you! (actually I need something for late June 2014?? ;);) )

Haha, not allowed to post that here! maybe I can as we do not seem to have a moderator.

I will see how the points balance goes at the end of this year, I had 5 or 6 rents this year off disboards, last Christmas 2 lots to friends and we have another lot of friends this year.

Last year we had an excess of points after a resale that had full points and 300 banked points that had a use by date.

I am in the minus at the moment but it will come back. Must be time to buy more!

I too am in the minus for my points, but we decided not to buy more last week @ WDW..I just cant justify paying the Disney price now after doing resale...since we are not travelling in 2014 ((((insert hysterical laughter here))) I may buy another 100 points as my family are now all wanting to travel with us and I am not sharing a studio with 12 others:crowded:

We booked with Davids and very very easy done deal. Saved a ton on Disney's Prices. $3000 for 13 nights in Deluxe Studios. 9 nights Boardwalk and 4 nights AKV kidami. Pretty Happy with that.

That's a good price, what is the room configuration at the boardwalk ie - two queens etc.
