Just give yourself enough lead time to get the reservation you want. Don't wait too long to get it.

I used them once when I was out of points for a birthday weekend, and the process was very smooth. I have noticed that many times the most available resort with David's is SSR, but that's ok for me as I own points there too.

David is just a broker between the member and the renter. He contacts members on his list to see if they are interested in the renter's request. The member then calls DVC or goes online to check availability. So the availability he has is the same as any other member calling.

I haven't rented points from David, but I have rented some of my points out through him. I found the process of working with his company very easy. His staff was very resposive and pleasant to work with. He has done this alot so has most of the bases covered; he collects all the money from the renter up front but delivers it to the owner in two stages 1/2 upon booking and 1/2 upon check in. I felt more secure that I would get all my money and I think that the renter probably felt more secure that the reservation would stay in place. Debbie is correct that he is looking at the same availability as everyone else, but he might be able to book something in the the 11-7 month range that another renter might not because as a clearing house, he has a wider array of contracts to work with.

David is just the matchmaker. He gets a request and notifies members who want his help to move their points. First one gets the reservation. They make the reservation, not David. In the old days, he was an associate on the member's contract, so he could make the reservation with their points. But DVC limited the number of contracts a person could be an associate on a few years ago, changing his business operations.

i think that's because there are way more points out there for rent at ssr than at other resorts. ssr is huge. also, many folks don't try to book until within seven months, making availability less likely at the smaller resorts.

Thanks everyone for your replies

I'm gonna go home & sweet talk my DH in hope he ll contact David & try to secure us a stay at W.L.

It's good to know people have had good experiences when trying to rent through the site. We re a little clueless when it comes to understanding the points system etc so knowing David makes everything straight forward & simple sounds very reassuring

Fingers crossed we can secure a couple of nights for next May

Thanks again

We just used David's for the first time (actually the first time we've had to rent points period) and I found all the staff extremely helpful and knowledgable. After speaking with them, I filled out the appropriate forms. On the day that our 11-month window opened, they emailed saying they didn't have anyone who could secure what we wanted (AKV). They asked if we wanted to be kept in a queue on file or a refund of our deposit. I said yes, but I was honest and said we would also be looking elsewhere (like here on the rent/trade board) to secure our reservation. They said that was totally fine and just to let them know if we did secure something else so they didn't keep us on file and we could get a refund. Well, I kept looking, but then about a week later they emailed again saying they had found someone who could rent to us and asked if we still wanted the reservation. We said yes and it was confirmed and everything in order in less than a day.

Also, a friend of mine used them and was also pleased.

Hope this helps!

I have rented out my points through David's.

He is reputable.... and everything goes smoothly, from a DVC owner's point of view.

I'm renting two different resorts thru David and he defines good customer service. It is such a pleasure to send an email and get an immediate response and know that when you actually show up at the resort your room will be there . I would highly recommend using him for renting points . The peace of mind is priceless

I have a question - I am a DVC member and would like to add to my already booked trip. If David can secure what I want, can the reservations be linked, so I can stay in the same room?

As long as the resort, villa size and view are all the same, yes. The owner of the points will need your reservation # to link them. David acts as a middleman; the actual owner who books your room will have to call MS to both book the stay and link it to your original reservation.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick response!

No problem! I just did something similar, so I knew the answer. Our friends who are DVC members had some borrowed points that they can't use and will expire soon, so they booked 2 nights of our Sept. trip with their points and we booked the rest of the nights with ours. (same resort and room type)Once they gave me the ressie #, I called and linked it to the nights booked with our points. When the CM sent me a new confirm, it looked to be one reservation. Pretty cool!

Did you have to do a conference call with your friend?

I rented out some points through David's.

I tried to do this today, and they wouldn't "link" them, just put a notation on the reservation..... because the "other" membership didn't belong to me.
I was told by the CM that a conference call was necessary to LINK.

I called twice and got the same answer, from 2 different CMs. Interesting that this came up today.

Have you tried just checking out the Rent/Trade board here on Disboards? You might be able to get a better deal than using a middleman.

I've rented points twice through David's. The actual reservations went off perfectly. My first trip was with some family and they relaxed the 44-point-minimum for my family's reservation since my reservation was above the minimum.

I did have one hiccup, for my first trip the member hadn't made my Magical Express reservations. David's said the member had and I was only calling Magical Express because I am type-A, but otherwise I would not have had Magical Express and I would not have gotten my baggage tickets. As it was, my ME tickets arrive just a couple of days before my departure. The other trip I didn't use ME. Your mileage may vary.

I just booked through David's and was told the reservations can't be linked, but the member noted my reservation # on the one they made for me, and then I had Member Services note the reservation # on mine as well. Member Services said I should remind the CM at check-in that I want to stay in the same room. They said seeing it is the exact same room type, I would most likely be able to stay in the same room.

I did check the Rent/Trade, but for close to the same money, I feel more comfortable going though David's.

Thanks for the heads-up on ME.

Can I jump in here and ask what may be a silly question? If the regular WDW website for cash reservations shows availability for a particular room type, ie. a 2BR Beach Club Villas on a particular date, does that mean it would also be available to a DVC member if I wanted to rent it through Davids or are there separate allocations for DVC and reservations directly through Disney?
