has anyone used "david's" DVC rental service linked here on the dis? I was hoping for feedback on how successful renting points through his agency was? i'm looking for a owner of dvc points perspective vs a renter
thanks all

I have personally not, but I have a few friends that have nothing but praise for his service. And lots of people report here on the DIS excellent experiences. I don't think you have anything to be concerned about renting through him.

The DIS is very satisfied that it's advertisers meet all expectations and are checked out before being accepted as an advertiser. David's service is approved and we have received no negative comments at all. As a matter of fact, there have been hundreds of positive and supportive posts regarding dvcrequest.com .

Thanks for asking! :)

I wonder if DVC has contacted David about his services. We have owned since 1992 and have noticed that some of the changes along the way from DVC were geared at keeping people from business opportunities associated with DVC. David seems to have found a "safe" niche, but I wonder of DVC will allow it indefinately? His approach is well done - wish I had thought of it! :)

For those that are familiar with David's rental service, I have read his contract where it says that the renter's are responsibile for any damages, theft etc.

In the end, what does happen if someone steals or damages something when using your points.....

Thanks

What happens is just what David has stated, the member is always responsible. The reservation belongs to the member, the person renting is your guest. Any damages or charges to the room that are not paid, the member is responsible until the cost is resolved.

Sammie:

Could you please tell me where it says this?? According to his sample contract I reviewed it reads the renter is responsible for damages, etc.

Obviously without a security deposit, this could be a tough one to enforce.

That contract is between the owner and the renter. Disney / DVC isnot involved. If there are damages to the room, Disney will hold the owner accountable and it would be up to the owner to recover from the renter.

Fortunately, the vast, vast majority of renters are honest and do not damage others' property. I do not recall ever reading a report that any renter damaged a room. I do recall one or two reports of DVC holding an owner accountable for his renter's unpaid bill, though. It's a risk, but a very small one.

Maminnie, I though you were referring to the Member as the renter. To me that is always confusing, as to who is the renter, the Member or the person wanting to rent. :confused3

The DVC member is responsible ultimately based on the POS given to all members when they make a purchase.

If someone that is renting damages a room or leaves an unpaid balance on room charges, Disney will first try to collect the money from the person who used the room, but if for any reason they are not able to fully resolve the issue Disney will contact the member for resitution.

They can lock a member's account and not allow them use of their points until it is resolved.

The nice thing about David's service too is that his point rentals are only $13 per point as opposed to the $15 per point that Disney charges. Obviously its not as good as what is typically charged on the Rent/Trade Board but its a better price then buying through Disney direct.

From what I understand, David is just a middleman between the member and the renter. The member makes the actual reservation. As far as DVC is concerned, the member made the reservation in someone else's name just like if they rented directly.

In my opinion he is VERY over priced. Take a look at the asking price on the for rent board. He is renting the same rooms for hundreds of dollars more with absolutely no additional perks. He is only hooking up buyers and renters. These points are not his. You can find a renter right on these boads and save hundreds of dollars. I feel sorry for those who unknowingly use his services.

Disney does not rent points. They can help you if you are short, but I relieve the max that they will offer you is 25 points. I am sorry but I must disagree, $13 per point is not a bargain in any way. Points are regularly rented at $8 per point with the average being $10.

If I had the time to post it here and deal with all the requests, make phone calls, have people change their mind. I have not dealt with them but may in the future.

Well, there is one additional perk. I've heard that David holds onto some of the $ that is due the owner until after the renter checks into the resort. This helps insure that an unscrupulous owner doesn't cancel the reservation out from under you, or if they do, that the renter has a little recourse.

Peace of mind, from a renter's perspective, may be worth the additional cost.

Well I'm an owner who has rented through David. He is fast, professional and takes care of all the paperwork that protects both the MEMBER and RENTER.

I gave him my info, heard back from him with a renter the next day, and had money in my account the day after that.

It is very true that you get half the money right away (the renter has to pay in full up front and cannot make date changes once confirmed) and David holds the other half until check in day to make sure you keep the reservation active.

He charged the renter $13.00/pt and I got $10.00/pt. David also gives you choices in case you have "distressed" points and want to let them go for a bit less to ensure that they rent quicker via a newsletter he sends out, but he doesn't have to do it that way, and will be happy to talk to you over the phone (not just via email) to discuss all your options and answer any of your questions.

I was very impressed with him and will not hesitate to use him again.
:thumbsup2
