David's Vacation Club Rentals

I did a transaction renting my points for a reservation. I don't care to do business with PayPal and this is the only way Dave's organization will forward the funds to you.

I had to set up a new PayPal account, the first (deposit) transaction went through just fine. The second transaction was refused by PayPal because I didn't have any "history" with them. They attempted to hold the funds hostage however did agree to cancel the transaction and I had to have the funds sent to another paypal account. Thankfully a friend still uses her account for a few things and we had the funds sent there instead.
We were also charged fees by PayPal so that reduced the price we received for the "renting" of the points.

I had no problem with the family that used our points but I can see that this could be an issue.

Basically, no I won't use this service again.

I also think that David is expensive, IMO, I feel that $13 per point is a ridiculous amount to pay, so I most defo wont be using his services.

I will continue to browse the boards for the points I want, $8 and $9 pp and I am not entertaining $10 and above, so if I cannot get the right price, then I won't use DVC and will look elsewhere. We all have a budget - and that's mine. :confused3

I don't find $13 per point excessive and would definitely use David's service if I had the need to rent out or be a renter myself.

With $10 per point being the going rate for years now on rentals, it seems to me that the price should have risen somewhat by now anyway. But that is another topic to discuss..

As an owner this service will allow me to save my valuable time and let David's service advertise and search out the clients to rent to. I find that attractive and worthwhile.

Plus, DVC is not a "budget" vacation and should not be thought of as one. There are many choices in Disney Resorts designed for the budget traveler, and options to seek out. I think as we continue to very slowly emerge from this recession, we may see things change quite a bit on the rental market. Hopefully, the price that the market will bear will increase so owners renting out will be able to generate a more realistic price.

When I have used David's service I will be sure to report back here on the DIS. :)

I disagree, 13 dollars per point is excessive for non owners looking to rent, the majority of rentals on the dis are around 10 & 11 . No way I would pay as much as 13 .
Find it amusing people suggest the price should be on the increase!

If you ever become a Member, you will understand.....

As it is, even at $13.00/pt, the renter is getting a better price than they will get from Disney CRO (unless they have a ridiculously great pin code).

I paid over $90.00/pt when I bought in - I'm not running a charity here, although it can feel like that.

It all depends on the context you put it in and really most everything shows it ought to be higher. Rental prices have remained around the $10/pt avg. for several years now. Dues have gone up. The buy in price has increased substantially. CRO prices have increased. If you compare renting points to Disney direct it's a steal.

All these facts say that rental rates ought to be increasing. But as long as owners are willing to accept the lower rates they will stay around the same range.

Thanks. Won't consider him. I don't use PayPal if at all possible so this just was the nail in the coffin!

As for pricing, I think he's making a good profit so...... What I don't get is why Disney does not consider this "commerical" renting?

He is not doing the renting. The member makes the actual reservation. As far as DVC is concerned it's a transacation between the owner and the renter. He just does the contract paperwork and the money exchange.

A reminder that this thread topic is a question for those that have used David's services. It is not a discussion thread of what should or should not be allowed by DVC, what is charged, or whether David's service is "allowed."

Any further off topic posts will be removed.

Thanks.

I hope this is still on topic.

So if I used him to rent my points I would still be the one calling MS to see if "there is a one bedroom MK view for the first week in December" and then calling him to say no and moving on to option two etc???? :confused3

I have not used David's services but the way I understand the website He checks availability and once confirmed has the member make the reservation.

Thanks, but I can still see "numerous phone calls" David checks at say 8 am (I guess using his account?) He contacts me. I call at 1 PM. Unit gone. Back to square one. I had always assumed that you just transferred the points to him or something and he did everything and just paid you.

He will send that message to many members. The first one to contact him will get the rental when he provides the renter's information. If you don't find availability it's likely that another member using his service beat you to it.

You can get full details by contacting David at DVC request.com.

He'll be happy to answer all questions about how his service works.

I would not want to take up his time...based on all of the info I have read here I can't see using it and I would feel bad asking him questions.

Please do not feel bad. It's what I do (answer questions). Feel free to get all of the information regarding my program at http://www.dvcrequest.com/disney_vacation_club_members.htm

You can also contact me direct at David@dvcrequest.com.

I did not chime into this thread earlier because the OP was looking for responses from people who have used my service and I felt that my experience with my service might be a wee bit biased.

It's a bit different than that.

For example, David sends out a reservation request to say 20 members (I have no idea of the real number) that he knows have enough points to cover a request he has received.

Now David has already called MS and found out if all the nights are available at the requested property, in the requested room catagory, and how many points it takes.

The first of the 20 members to email David back is the "winner". David then emails that member the details of the reservation that needs to be made - number of points, property, room catagory, names/address of the renters, etc. You then (understandably under a time constraint) call MS and make that reservation with the info David sent you. These emails all take place somewhat "boom, boom, boom". So if you are the "winner" of the reservation, my advice is to hang by your computer, because David will be sending you the info pretty quickly so you can make the reservation right away.

Then, you confirm that you can look up the reservation, and email the confirmation number back to David.

Voila - the next day (sometimes the same day) you have money in your PaPal account. Depending on your financial institution, it can take 1-4 business days for that money to be transfered to your bank if you wish. David sends you the other half of the money on check-in day to make sure you keep your account current. The renter cannot cancel or make date changes. David's contracts protect both the renter and the member in my opinion.

The only other thing you might have to do is to add the Dining Plan at some point, and Magical Express if the renter wants it. They will give their info to David who will email the request details to you.

Easy Peasy.

Thanks everyone.

I appreciate the 'how to'. Since I only use PayPal if there are NO other options and will not, under ANY circumstances, give them access to cash that should be in MY account. (I spent HOURS once proving 'who" I was to 'protect me' from getting my money... LOL!)

Of course the fact is that I generally use all my points anyway!

:)

I have rented points out thru Dave (right now actually!) and it's been a very easy and painless ordeal. :) Highly recommended!! :) Like the other poster mentioned, he emails out a general email, you email back saying if you are willing to make the reservation. He then lets you know (immediately) if you are to call in the reservation. I called, took maybe 10 mins, then you email back the confirmation #. He verifies the confirmation. I think I got money the next day in Paypal.

We ended up with about 120 points that needed to be used in the next 45 days. We only received $4 a point, but they were sold for us rather than lost by not using them. The process was easy....we got our money right away...:confused3 but I have yet to receive the last minute newsletter...
