In case anyone else is interested they've put up their new Fall line of gowns and maids dresses.

I really like this one:

Oh my GOD..I love both of them!!!! I am not sure about quality but I do think they do alterations!! :flower:

David's Bridal's quality isn't top notch, but the seams are finished and they do good alterations for bustling and making sure the dress length is correct as well as spaghetti strap fitting.

I found out that buying their headpieces are insanely expensive for what you get. Buy the dress at David's and find a crafty friend to raid JoAnn's. (My tiara and beaded 8-foot veil was under $25).

I would also suggest buying a proper corset before the dress-buying phase if you know what style you'd like. Once I tried my dress on with David's Bridal's corset, all of the other ones didn't fit well under the dress so I had to buy one from them. (bras and bridal gown don't really mesh as you will need some full-body support if you have a lovely poofy gown).

Hi there... I am so frustrated with the David's Bridal in my area... service stinks!!! :sad2: I bought my dress 6 years ago from there and they were great! However, my boyfriend backed out of the date we set and now I have a dress that I still kind of like, but it just doesn't do it for me yet... I'm thinking of taking the sleeves off (long sleeves with lots of beading and flower appliques). My fiance says if I don't like it, I should go get another one... the thing is we are struggling financially right now and I don't want to waste money... I already have a dress. I should just stick with this one... I'm only wearing it for a few hours anyway, right?

Sorry to get off track... just needed some advice...

It's true you only wear it once but it's also the ONLY wedding dress you will ever wear, right? My point is, make sure you are happy with the dress and feel like a princess in it because it will be staring back at you from the pictures for the...rest...of...your...life! :goodvibes If you can get the alterations done, why not try to find a seamstress in your area who does good work but doesn't charge an arm and a leg. Bridal shops will always charge you top dollar for anything they need to get fixed. I was recently in a wedding and the alterations cost more than the dress! Do what makes YOU happy because, after all, it's your day. :flower:

Hi!

So sorry you are in this position but obviously the dress is *almost* perfect or you would be happy with it. You just need to make it perfect.

First off, ask around and see if moms of your friends are VERY GOOD at sewing. Don't just settle for "oh, I can do buttons."

If that doesn't work out, get estimates at your dry cleaners if you are a regular customer. If you are not a regular customer, they may over-charge. My dry cleaner offered up a huge discount on my wedding dress repairs (yep, I tore it on my wedding day) and preservation just because I go in from time to time with my husband's shirts.

If that doesn't work out, is there a community college or university near you that has costuming courses? You can contact the instructor and see if any senior students need a project. Or if the techer would like to use you and your dress as a class project. You'd be surprised. My costuming instructor in college did all of the theatre productions for the college and she was fantastic.

Just an FYI, I checked out a well-known book called Bridal Bargains from the library and they do not recommend David's at all. Mostly poor customer service, the gowns are mass-produced in Asia for the chain and sold under bogus names which are only carried by David's bridal, so no price-comparisons can be done. I'm finding this book pretty informative, since it has lots of websites for places online to get good deals and rates the dress manufacturers for service and quality. I already bought my dress on eBay, but I still have to find attendants' gowns, and all the rest of the stuff.
Anyway, worth a check-out from the library, for sure.

I agree, Bridal Bargains is a great book! A friend of mine gave it to me when I got engaged. They don't have good opinions on David's Bridal at all, and many negative comments about bridal boutiques as well. I'm still willing to check out David's Bridals gowns, as well as all my other options. I'm just not interested in blowing a ton of money on one dress - but it does have to be "the one" for me LOL....and probably "the one" will be way more than I planned on spending :p
