Dave Matthews Band...

I'm past 60 and I like DMB. Boyd and Carter (even though he is a Steeler fan)bring something to the music that few bands have. Dave's voice isn't what sells their music. One of the few band/performers that I will pay to see/hear when they are in the area.

A good friend of mine and I go together to these shows, and we always play the "they're older than us" game, which used to be very challenging, but I have to say, the last couple of years the crowds are looking older and older! :thumbsup2

Gheesh. :confused3 I wasn't questioning other people's taste in music; I was hoping for someone to shed some light on what they like about the band, thinking that perhaps it would enlighten me and I would have an appreciation for the band and the music they make. That's all, nothing more. ;)

I can answer only for me. I think what I find so appealing is that it does not sound like every other group on the radio. KWIM? I agree that they may not be the the most entertaining on stage, but that's not what they are about. They are not about dancing and doing everything in sync like a boy band.

Someone on here said that the band seems to be doing it only for their own amusement. You may be right there, and that is why they have a huge following. They put out the music that they love, not necessarily music that will be commericially a huge hit.

Now for me personally, I just don't get bands who are all about performance on stage and not about the music at all. I just don't get that. But to each his or her own.

I love DMB. I've seen them many times in concert and am counting the days until my DS is old enough to be drug to a concert. There's something about their sound and the wacky lyrics that I love. I caught the last song they did on the Today show today and assume it's from the new studio album. I've been planning on buying the album but will definately now since I've heard something from it. They really do rock a live album. I have several and don't care that they all are mostly alike. DH and I our "song" is DMB and we even danced to them as our first dance at our wedding.

DMB & John Mayer are both musical mysteries to me!:confused3

It's great that there is such diversity of music out there to make us all happy!:goodvibes

I will bravely step forward and proclaim my love for Dave Matthews Band! It's an acquired taste I guess.

Another big fan. love them. With all the fake talent like Britaney spears, Beyonce and whatever pop princess is hot at the moment, it's great to have a band that actually has talent.

Another fan here, but I don't get out to their concerts. I do buy their albums though. I love to relax to their music and no dope involved.

I love DMB! Saw them many times in college (mid-1990s) and countless times at Jazz Fest. Give me them any day over the junk that's played on the radio now.

I like a few of their songs, but they're definitely not my favorite band. I don't think they're awful, I just like other bands/music better.

DD3 knows how much mommy loves Dave, so she's begging me to go this year! Maybe next year...;)

Love them! Have loved them since the mid-1990s. :) They are by far my favorite band. They beginning music of Ants Marching is actually my ring tone.

I don't get it either. I did enjoy their song from 4 years ago, American Baby, but other than that I just don't get it.

I love Dave so much that the last concert I went to I was 8.5 months pregnant. I was so afraid I was going to go into labor 3 hours from home. But I got to watch the show from the hanicap seats which were right in front of the stage.

As a 53yo, whose collegiate days are long behind her and who has never seen the need for getting high on anything other than life, I can tell you that his following goes far beyond the college crowd.

The reason is that he's different from almost every other commercial band out there. He does things musically that noone else is willing to do. Turn on mainstream radio and every song/singer is just a variation of the same thing. Dave does things with instrumental arrangement that is unique today. He's not afraid to experiment with sound and arrangement. He thinks outside the box. I'll give you that his vocals and lyrics leave something to be desired, but the use of varied instruments and the combo of different sounds is what has earned him such a huge following.

I'm not a cult follower, but I think this sums it up well.
