DS 10 is going away 11/10 - 11/14 with his 5th grade class to Nature's Classroom.

DD did the same thing when she was in 5th grade. Why is it so much harder for me to let my DS go than it was my DD?

I'm already a nervous wreck about it . . .I know he'll have an awesome time but what will I do all week without my baby boy?
:(

Our dd9 has always been little Miss Independent. Always remembers stuff she's supposed to bring to school or home from school. She remembers to brush her teeth without reminding.
Pretty responsible.
My ds7 1/2 needs a wife. Honestly. Forgetful, needs reminders...
I'd be feeling the same as you, I think!
I'm sure he'll be fine though. :D

That is funny because the 5th grade moms that I know that had boys were a wreck compared to the moms who had girls and went "eh" she'll be fine.

Browneyes:

He is the baby . . .:)

Nature's Classroom is a 5 day trip to an overnight camp where they will have regular school days. But it takes place in the outdoors and they will do all sorts of experiments and hiking and exploring. They do get to sleep in heated cabins (which is good). They get to sign up for whatever activity they want like dissecting, rock climbing, etc. And at night they have bonfires and tell stories.

DD went in 1999 and was exhausted when she got back . . .

I think it's because it's your baby that's gone, and that's why you're so stressed.:)

My dd just got back from a similiar thing (she's in 5th grade too). It's called Camp River Ridge. I was kinda nervous about her going away for 3 days without me, but she convinced my brother to go with her, so that made me feel a lot better about her trip.:) I'll probably go through the same thing you're going through now when it's time for my ds to go though.:o

I think that in 5th grade, girls in general display more mature behavior than boys of the same age. I tell my DS11 that he has a habit of making "unwise choices". You know, like emptying 10 2-liter bottles of soda onto the lawn so that he and his friends could use the bottles for bowling.

Harmless, but unwise.

Needless to say, he is also the "baby" and he worries me to death!

mad4themouse, your sons antics made me lol! That sounds just like something one of my nephews would do.
