Daughter just broke her foot, which rides are wet?

Just trying to keep myself busy while we await the cat scan results (couldn't see every bone on x-ray, inflamed ligament in the way).

Will definitely have to skip Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids. Are there any other non-obvious rides where her cast might get wet?

This definitely changes my carefully planned out FastPasses!

Pirates and Frozen Ever After both have potential splashing that is not expected. Could be a dry ride, could be wet. The more weight on the boat, the bigger the splash. Jungle Cruise has essentially mist from the water falls. I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones that jump out at me.

I've gotten a little wet on some awfully innocuous rides like Pirates. I would try to make arrangements so that water isn't a huge issue. First, ask for a waterproof cast. If that isn't an option, pick up one of these so that she can slip it on before a ride with water.

And this would be much harder with a leg cast, but one of DD's favorite souvenirs from all of our Disney trips is the cast she got signed by all of the characters she met.

How soon are you going on your trip? Freshly broken bones should not get jarred so a LOT of rides may be out, unfortunately, even slow boats like Small World and Pirates (the boats often get bumped from behind, which could be bad for a broken foot.) Definitely ask the doctor for advice on which rides will be okay.

Anything with water should be avoided, but you can also wrap the cast in a poncho or plastic bag if needed. Honestly, rain will be your biggest problem to contend with, water wise.

Thanks for all the suggestions! We’re waiting now for the orthopedic surgeon so still not exactly sure what to expect. Our trip isn’t until August 20 so we’ve got some time to figure everything out...

I'd be more worried about the bone itself than the cast getting wet personally. Did they have to "set" the bone?
My son broke his arm about 10 days before our trip in 2015. He rode very few rides, The Safari ride at AK was quite rough for a broken bone, we didn't anticipate that. He didn't ride the SDMT, or any other ride that might jostle the bone out of place we thought. We rode frozen and put a small trash bag around his arm up to his shoulder, yes it looked funny. I didn't think the drop would be that rough either, but you hit the water at the bottom kinda hard for such a small drop in his opinion.

When we got home we had a re-check and his bone had moved enough that he had to go back "under" and have his bone re-positioned again. :crazy2:

Press n’ Seal is great for short cast protection needs! Our orthopedist recommended it, and it works very well.
That is really a great suggestion. Thanks! Wish I had known for a broken ankle a few years ago.
I find Press n' Seal so handy. I use it to keep my Disney thin chain necklaces untangled when traveling.

Wish a speedy recovery for your daughter!

Few years ago I injured my knee and had surgery 4 weeks before our trip. Had a hip to ankle leg brace that had to be kept fully extended and was non weight bearing so rented a wheelchair.

Had some time to figure out strategies for rain/wetness but none worked as well as what we figured out while on vacation. The trash can liners were perfect. I could slide my entire leg into it AND it was disposable so we didn’t need to hang onto it.

Asked at the front desk of SSR and they kindly gave me extras.

This was the year of some sloooww moving TS that hung out for days so I used quite a few.

Everyone has already suggested what I was going to. So all I can say now is that I hope she has a speedy recovery! pixiedust:

I'm sorry! My DS has had three broken bones, and it isn't fun.

Is the cast already on? If not, I would ask for a waterproof cast. It makes it so much easier. If the trip is a month away, that will give time for it to start healing. Also, they may change her cast before then, if they need to xray it to check healing progress.

Thanks for the help everyone! She didn't end up needing surgery, she broke 4 of the small bones in her foot but they are all still in place. For now she's in a temporary cast, we have to wait a few days until she gets her actual one when the swelling goes down. It happened in a different city (she was camping with her grandparents) so we'll see what our doctors say here this week.

Hmmm, next thought, are there rules about which rules she is not allowed to ride with a cast on? She's awfully disappointed about not going to the waterparks so I want to prepare her for any other considerations...

I'd call and ask. When I worked at a non-Disney amusement park the rule was that guests in casts could ride anything as long as the cast covered only one joint; two or more joints and they wouldn't be allowed onto thrill rides. I'm guessing it's only a foot/ankle cast? I don't know how standard that rule is in the industry, though, or if Disney follows it. I do remember from my time in WDW that there was literally a booklet for CMs with rules regarding interactions and restrictions related to guests with disabilities (including temporary ones), so a CM ought to be able to look it up pretty quickly.
