We are considering letting our daughter (16 years old) bring a friend on our next trip to Disney World. We normally opt for a studio since there's only 3 of us and we have a limited number of points (200 points), but wondering if we should upgrade to a larger room to allow for more privacy. Thoughts?

Please feel free to share any other tips/suggestions you have.

Thanks,
Lisa

If you have the points, then a 1bd would be very nice for all of you. I would even cut the vacation short to be able to stay in the 1bd.

How well do you know her friend?

Depending on the resort, the girls may have to share a bed, how would that go over?

If you want a 1 br but don't have a lot of points, how about a 1 br standard at kidani. Points are reasonable for the space and hotel. There are 2 bathrooms, room for everyone to sleep. You could have the master and master bath. Your daughter and her friend could have the living room with a sleeper sofa and chair plus their own bath. I had a 1 br savannah view and could have lived in that room. Even without a savannah view at kidani there are lots of great places for animal viewing.

I would try for a one bedroom if possible. I personally would want my privacy if someone outside the family were coming. And the girl might feel a lot more comfortable also. Sleeping in the same room as grown adults who are not her parents might be a little awkward . . .

In fact, if it were my daughter being invited I have to confess that I would be significantly more comfortable saying yes if the girls had their own sleeping quarters and bathroom.

So nice of you to invite her and how very fun for your daughter! I hope you all have a wonderful time! :goodvibes

Edited to add that we have around the same number of points for our family of five - half of them are at VGC with crazy point requirements. I can't believe how far we've been able to stretch those points and how much fun we've had!

You could look at Bay Lake Tower too. There are two full bathrooms so the girls could have one of their own.

It is very nice of you to invite your dd's friend. However, I would not feel comfortable and I am sure my daughter would not feel comfortable sharing a room with the parents.

Is your husband coming? If yes, I would definitely get a 1 BDR. They can share the sofa bed in the LR.

I have taken my dd's friend and stayed in a studio but it was just us three girls.

Good luck, have fun planning and have a great time.

We just had our first trip where DD14 brought a friend (we've been neighbors with the friend for 14 years, she's stayed overnight at our house multiple times). We stayed in a 1br at BCV,so the girls shared the sleeper, which they were fine with. We would have preferred a 1br with a 2nd bath, but the friend was added on 6 days before our trip and we already had the room booked. Sharing the bathroom among the 4 of us worked out though. DD's friend was a night showerer, so that, and a good communication system of always asking/checking that everyone was decent, ended up working ok for us.
