For those of you who have visited Daufuski Island while at DHHIR, I am hoping you can help me with some general questions. This November, we were able to get only three nights at the resort. We usually stay five. So we are trying to figure out how to prolong our trip. We are planning maybe doing two nights in an Airbnb in Bluffton. We have always wanted to visit Old Towne Bluffton anyway, so this is the perfect chance. While there, we were thinking we might do an excursion to Daufuskie Island, which we have also always wanted to do. Is using the Daufuskie Island Ferry from Bluffton the best way to get there, or is it better to leave from HHI? How long is the ferry from Bluffton? I get seasick, so I need to know how long I'll be traveling. If we use this ferry service, I am looking at doing the 10 a.m. and coming back at 5:30 p.m. Is that enough time, or too much? What do you recommend we take to the island? Backpack with snacks and water? Anything else? Once there, where is a good place to rent a golf cart? What all is there to do there? Any recommendations will be appreciated.

don’t give up hope. Lots of people are scared of covid there might be cancellations. Last year I was able to get in at Hilton head during the summer with under a month to go. Good luck

Yes I am definitely stalking the website and I have a waitlist. But honestly if we stay at the Airbnb it will be fine. I’m just seeing this as an opportunity to try something I’ve always wanted to try. I want to check out Old Towne Bluffton anyway and once I’m on the island I don’t want to leave. Also I think it’s easier to go from Bluffton to Daufuskie Island but I’m not sure.

We went on a 4.5 hour guided history and artisan tour where the boat departs from Shelter Cove. Its departure point is about 5 minute walk from the Disney HHI location. It is a very small group tour. When you arrive on Daufuskie, they have two golf carts that hold 6 or 8 people each (I do not remember exactly). The guide drives one and he asks one of the tour group members to drive the other. We loved it. It is run by a group called Outside Hilton Head. I posted a link below, but if that link is not allowed, I am sure you can find it with a web search.

Daufuskie Island History & Artisans Excursion | Outside Hilton Head

ETA: Looking at the booking calendar it looks like it runs 7 days a week in November even though the website says year round Tuesday - Friday.

We did this is 2019 and enjoyed the experience very much! I am very happy we did a guided tour. There are not a lot of people on the island, and there was ample time to explore the different stops.

Anyone go to Daufuskie and not do a tour? We usually prefer to do things on our own instead of doing a tour. Of course, I'm sure we would learn much more on a tour. We just prefer self-pacing.
