Date Stamp?

What are the opinions on whether to leave the date stamp on or turn it off? I notice that most of the photos posted on this message board do not have the date stamp on.

I feel it is distracting and it takes away from the image. Once it is there, there is no going back. As long as your camera has the right time set, then you can find the time/date from the EXIF data. There is probably some Photoshop plugin or action that can add this to your image so you can always keep the original without it.

I don't like the date stamp.

If I need to know the exact date, I just put it under the description when I upload my pics.

I never use the date stamp, I don't want anything in the picture except what I took it of. Once I am done shooting, I down load the photos onto my storage drive into a folder with the date as the name. That way I always know when I took it.

On the ones I want to print out for our photo albums, I run them through Irfanview for the date stamp, then send them to print. The dates help me put the photos in order.

Egads! Even the most casual snapshot deserves not to be defiled by a big ol' date stamp in the corner! :rotfl2: Most processors print the date on the back, so if you need it for reference, you can find it there. IIRC, Costco and Mpix let you control what gets printed on the back (i.e., file name, date the image was captured or printed, etc.)

me i love to "defile"* my photos with date stamp, watermarks, as much dirt on the sensor as i can get...anything to add a little "interest" ......just kidding:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes
i never remember what date it is anyway so that would be useless baggage for me;)

*great word fitzperry :rotfl2:

It's not even an option on my camera anyway.... When I was living in the p&S world I actually liked it. all of my pictures were just snapshots of the kids, so it was great for knowing when it was taken.

When I moved back to a SLR, and want to be more creative with my photography, it simply got in the way. I also have a pretty good system for renaming the photos, so that the names mean something, and include the date.

Now, dirt on the sensor . . . . that's another story altogether . . . . adds an earthy, natural quality to your photographs. It's very Ansel Adams. :rotfl:

Date stamps on the photo are well-intentioned but MAN do they look terrible!

There's no excuse on a digital camera. And if you are printing them out and want to remember the date, just write it on the back with a Sharpie.
