Date specific tickets?

Several sellers on Ebay are auctioning "date specific" WDW tickets. For example, they say something like they are only good from Mar 3 to Mar 16. Does anyone know more about these tickets? Are they OK for the general public to purchase and use, or are they restricted to certain individuals that an ID would be needed? Any additional info is appreciated. :earsboy:

I'd be uneasy about buying any WDW tickets of Ebay...there's no way of knowing if the tickets have already been used. I've heard of people being scammed in cases like this before so that's my two cents.

Last year, a DIS'er posted that a family in the turnstile line ahead of him tried to use tickets the dad purchased on eBay. They weren't any good.

The ones you see may be leftovers from a convention or something, but you never know.

Since all tickets now require a finger scan you won't know until you go to use them if they are any good.

Thanks for cautions. Some of the sellers (including those with lots of positive feedback) say they are travel agents and are allowed to buy these "date specific" tickets at a discount and pass on the savings. In fact there is one seller on Ebay right now who is auctioning the link to the Disney website for purchasing them yourself directly from Disney. I was wondering if anyone knew more details or had information regarding these tickets. Thanks again!

Date specific tickets do exist. But you should not buy any kind of ticket sight unseen from unauthorized sellers or dealers. Meanwhile nothing forbids friends, relatives, or eBay sellers from gifting you the tickets and you tip them after your vacation when everything goes well.

What you are seeing with those time frame dates are sports event tickets. They are usually valid 7 days before the event starts and 7 days after the event ends. They are supposed to be sold only to people attending the associated event but some do get passed on to other people.

I have to caution you on buying tickets off of ebay...

I work at The Disney Store and we have calls all the time from people that are at the parks who can't get in because the tickets don't work. It's always the same story, they bought them off of ebay from someone who said they were purchased at TDS only to get to the parks and find out the tickets were never actually purchased. We keep our tickets on a fixture much like you can pick a gift card from any retailer, they are out in public but aren't activated until they are rung through the register. I have also never heard of date specific tickets. Tickets are good for 14 days after first use unless you chose to purchase the non-expiration option.

I know that some people have great luck getting tickets off of ebay but I don't think it is worth the risk. If you do buy off of ebay ensure that you get both the purchase receipt and the activiation receipt for the tickets. This way even if they don't work as long as the serial numbers match and you have both receipts they can reissue the tickets without a problem.

Thanks everyone for all the info! I was/am a little concerned (and, hence, purchase-cautious) about what these tickets were being advertised for on Ebay. Since I never heard about "date specific" tickets before, I was curious as to what they were and also try to sort out what was true on the Ebay ads and what was hype. You all helped a bunch on that! Thanks again. :)
