Hi there,
I wouldnt stress about it too much. We are getting married August 21st, so I know how you feel about the rain, crowds, and hurricane worries. But, you can't worry about details you can't control. I mean, if the heat truly bothers you, then I would think about changing your month. My fiance and I were there this past August for an 8 day vacation (and to book our wedding in person!) and it was HOT! I mean, really hot. But, on the other hand, its summer and your in Disney. Everything we are doing with our wedding in going to be in the AC and since I am a teacher, :teacher: I was limited as to what months I could get married. We choose the end of August and the crowds weren't bad at all. I mean 20 minute lines or so, sometimes longer, but it was worth it. We found ways to keep cool. :cool1: Also, in the 8 days we were there, we didnt have a single day of rain. It was weird. One quick 10 minute shower and that was it. So here is my advise: If you HATE the heat and cant stand the thought of sweating, then I would change the month. But if your like me and the heat doesnt get to you that bad, then I would stick to your date. You can't prevent hurricanes and you can't predict the weather. (Watch, Ill have the worst hurricane ever the day of my wedding! Thats my luck! hahahaha). But, regardless, I wouldn't worry about things you can't control. If you like the idea of August and it works for everyone attending, then stick with it and just wish and pray that it stays dry. :sunny: Thats what I'm doing! Good luck with your planning!

I'm not sure how this works for weddings at Disney, but I know that you can get "vacation insurance" when you book honeymoons there. Our honeymoon is August 23-30 2006, and we got it, and if for some reason, hurricanes or other unforseeable things arise, and you can't make the trip, you are reimbursed for the cost of your stay...they also cover illnesses and accidents while on the tirp...also death and dismemberment! :rotfl: That part cracked me up in a morbid way!!

You check in to that...it may give you some peace of mind!

I'm glad to know that others have been to WDW in late August and didn't have monsoons! princess: :wizard:

I would deffinately buy Wedding Insurance. Especially if you're going during hurricane season. Hurricanes in Florida have been really bad for the last 2 years. I got wedding insurance for DD's wedding & I was so glad I did. She was very sick about a month before the wedding. As it turned out she was OK by the time of the wedding, but if she had had to postpone the wedding, we wouldn't have lost any of our money. It was a great comfort to know that, so I could concentrate on her needs at the time & not worry about the money. I found the wedding insurance on Google. It only cost me $125. A great investment for the peace of mind.
PS: it would probably cost a bit more for a custom wedding, DD's was an Intimate. But it would be even more important to protect the much greater cost for a custom wedding.

Really i would try not to worry too much. We are in late June and have the same concerns but that is just the best time for us. Really it is like that from late may all the way through Septmber so unless you can/want to move the date that foward I would just do what felt right and if that is August then I am sure it will work out. I know- easier said than done! :goodvibes Good luck on your decision.

Hey there. I live here in Orlando and last summer was my first one and all I have to say is that August is HOTTTT like above 100 and with the heat index its even more. As for the parks that is true that they are less busy then, so I wouldn't worry too much about that, and as far as the hurricains, you can't control that either. If you don't mind the heat then you might be ok (however you will be taking pictures outside so you will be outside sometimes). I know that for me, even though summer would have been better for a lot of my guests, I just was not going to put up with the heat; but if August is what works for you then go for it. I would get insurance though. hth! :sunny:

First of all...did you know that a little rain on your wedding day is good luck?!?!?! :thumbsup2

Okay...to answer your question...

We were married in late September..and it was very hot and humid. But the crowds were so low that it was totally worth it!

Technically, hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30...so basically, for six months out of the year you could have to deal with a hurricane. To be honest (and I live in a hurricane prone area)...I would NOT worry about that too much. If you have to go through a hurricane, Disney is the place to be. Orlando is far enough inland to *usually* not get the worst part of any hurricane (by the time they get there, most of the punch has been lost...again *usually*).

I would agree with trip insurance if you are really worried...but CHECK THE DETAILS AND COVERAGE CAREFULLY! When I checked it, it was going to cost about 10-20% of our trip total...and wouldn't cover some pretty basic things (like weather) so I didn't buy it. Know too, that Disney WILL work with you if something happens and you can't get down there because of a hurricane...although I totally understand wanting to be prepared "just in case".

Lastly, you might want to consider having your ceremony as early in the day as possible. Rain in Florida (especially in the summer months) is almost guaranteed in the afternoon. And the afternoons are much hotter...a morning wedding will be much more comfortable...especially at an outdoor location. If you are considering the Pavilion...well, it's air conditioned so that doesn't matter. ;)

Happy Planning!!

This chart should help you a great deal in planning: Weather History in Orlando

It's got the average temperature, rainfall, humidity, extreme temperatures, etc. charted. If heat truly bothers you, then look at the column labeled "Extreme Temp (above 90F)" and see which months have less days in this category. It can be truly uncomfortable touring the parks on those days (and I'm from Louisiana), so I would avoid months that had a lot of extreme days if comfort is your goal. I can remember one August day in Epcot when tourists were dropping like flies from the heat. The temps by the American Pavilion were hovering around 110F. Also, you will notice some months have very few cloudless days, whereas some months have more. For August, you are looking at an average history of the highest number of extreme temperature days (25) and also the highest average rainfall per month (at 6.8 inches), with typically only THREE clear days. Basically, you picked the absolute worst month of the year for the desires you listed above. April and November are both very pleasant months at Disney. Good luck! ~Ev

thanks everyone! After talking with my mum and df last night we have decided to bring it forward to March 08 as its our anniversary month so thought it would be a bit special also flight costs and things are around $400 cheaper in march so hopefully people more people will be able to come
there is so much planning to be done already - i can feel a stree break down coming on already!

Thanks to everyone for posting I think I would be totally lost with out this board!
