So... we (me, DH, DD... soon to be 4, and DS... soon to be 9 mos) were going to go in January. Because of the whole pregnancy and birth thing  we had to skip our trip this year. Just couldn't find the time to go. Looked at dd's school schedule and found a non-holiday weekend where she had a teacher workshop day. If we were to go from Wed-Sun she would only miss two days of school. I found a FANTASTIC hotel rate available for all four nights and made our reservation. Today I got a letter from DD's school saying that they have moved their workshop day back two weeks due to scheduling conflicts. :headache: As soon as I got home I checked the hotel website and the FANTASTIC rate is only available for two nights instead four. Double :headache:. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, the dilemma is... do we stick with our original plan and pull DD out of school for three days? Do we move our trip, pay more , and pull DD out of school for two days? The ONLY benefit to moving our trip back (aside from the whole childrenarethefutureeducationissoimportant thing) is that IASW may be done un-Christmasing and waiting for us. Last trip it was getting it's face lift so no go. What do you think?

Your DD is three years old, soon to be four? So she's in preschool? I say go with your original plans. Special time with her family beats a couple of extra days of preschool hands down. JMO! :goodvibes

Skip preschool - she'll discover and play more as a family in DL then at Pre School.

I just took both of my children out of school for 2 entire weeks so if you were to ask me I would say, of course, go for it. Yes, education is important but when they are grown up will having missed a few days have made any significant impact?

I'd stick with the original plans. ONe extra day of school missed won't hurt her. My kids will be missing 10 days of school and they're 7 and 9.

But...........................the IASW thing......................I guess it all depends on how much you'd like to do that.

I agree with everyone else -- stick with your original plan. :thumbsup2

One more vote for sticking with your original plan.

I am seriously considering my kid and I both missing a day or two of our college courses so we can go to DLR a week later or two weeks earlier. It all depends on what classes we sign up for in the spring session. Hmmm.. Maybe I should sit her down tonight so we can compare schedules.

Def. stick with your original dates. Your child won't be lacking anything educational-wise by missing a couple days of pre-school! You wouldn't hesitate to keep her home if she was sick a couple days, right? :)

Thank you all for providing me the ammo for DH. I do feel a bit silly getting all hoo-hoo about preschool, but I think we'll stick to the Jan-plan anyway. If DH can be convinced. ;)

Well I think you should just take her out of school. It's preschool, no worries. :) In fact, I'm taking both my DDs out for 3 days in December for DD9's 10th bday trip. :) Sure they may get upset but you know, I don't care.....we are going whether the school likes it or not. LOL

My DD is in preschool as well and she will be missing 3 days in December while we go to Disneyland. She doesn't have school on Fridays, so I made the vacation an extra-long weekend so she missed days in two separate weeks. DH and I have had the conversation multiple times about at what age is it not okay to take the kids out of school for a family trip. I'm a teacher and I know that it's frustrating when the struggling students miss school, but when the A students go on vacation??? At that point I am just plain jealous!

Yes, I think that school is important and I worry about the message she will receive when we choose vacation over school, but I think that we send the right message the other 177 days of the year.

You should go as planned and tell the school you made vacation plans based on their school calendar, and you can NOT change your dates. I hate when that happens, It happened to me once and I went as planned.

I'm sorry I don't mean to sound rude but I can not honestly believe that you are concerned about a 3 year old missing 2 days of school... your daughter has 12-16+ years of school ahead of her... Tell you DH to relax and let the little girl be a little girl...

For me, it's not that I'm concerned about her missing school, but more about the message that it may send that I don't value the importance of school. I don't know about OP, but that's my biggest concern with pulling my children out of school. Again, just my personal opinion about the choices that I make for my family...

We have taken our girls out regularly for the past 2 years, they still know we value school and they are expected to get good grades. My DD13 gets A's & B's, DD9 is in her first year of getting letter grades but I expect the same for her. They know how important school/work are but they also know how important family time is. :)

We are sticking with our original plans. Even though it is preschool, we want our children to realize the value there is in being present... However, since it is preschool, she has a lot more opportunities to learn that lesson! Thanks to everyone that shared... it really helped our ohana.

And the princess is up! Gotta go!

I feel for you. I am taking my kids out for 2 days to DL trip the last week of school before Christmas break. My kids are in 4th and 6th grade, but we never take time from school, so they understand this is an exception. I would never say this to the kids of course, but between you and me...DL or school...DL or school...no brainer!:santa:

Like others have said it is preschool (although with the expensive of preschool, I kinda understand the concern of missing days you are paying for). Our dd will be missing 3 days of preschool for our trip next week, sure it sucks to pay for the schooling she isnt getting but her teacher is sending along her worksheets and reading books. Now as for IASM, I dont know that would be a big reason for me to move my trip. I am so glad that it will be open this time when we go!
