DAS with MNSSHP

We will be traveling in June and our son was approved for DAS which is only good for the length of the tickets we have correct? Me and my son are thinking about attending a MNSSHP in August with the grandparents which would fall within the 120 days. Would purchasing those tickets before our current DAS expires mean the DAS would automatically apply to it without having to reapply? We’ve never had DAS for a party before and honestly aren’t sure if it works. Does DAS work for after hours parties? Thanks for any help. I’ll start digging around in the forum too.

Are you an AP? My understanding is APs are being approved for 120 days under the new rules. If you are under the old rules then your approval should run out before then. If you aren’t an AP I believe it’s only good for length of ticket and you would need to reapply for Aug. I’m not 100% sure on that though so could be wrong.

Editing as I went to look it up. Website says length of ticket or 120 days, whichever is SHORTER, so I think my answer above was correct. If AP then 120 days and if not AP then only length of your ticket. Was your DAS approved before 5/20 or after?

It was approved after.
So even if we had 2 separate tickets that were within 120 days of each other since we are not AP holders, we would need to reapply for the 2nd ticket?

That is my understanding based on reading it. APs tickets are good for a year so the 120 days is the “shorter” of the 2 options. Yours is a date based ticket so that is shorter than the 120 days. Seems you will need to reapply before your Aug trip.

Off-topic but just jumping in here to say that if this is your first MNSSHP, I would strongly recommend not doing rides anyway. There's so much to do at these parties that going on the rides tends to be a waste of your party time, in my opinion. (And if you want to do one or two rides you're likely looking at very low waits to near walk-ons anyway). MNSSHP is, in my opinion, one of the best offerings at WDW and you'll have a blast if you decide to do it.

The 120 days is for Annual Passholders. The actual wording on the WDW website on the DAS FAQs is:
"DAS is valid for the length of the ticket or up to 120 days, whichever is shorter. Once the service has elapsed, Guests need to re-register for the program."

On the general DAS information, it just says:
"DAS is valid for up to 120 days"

As jennab mentioned, if you have APs and were approved under the new rules (after May 19 for WDW), DAS will expire in 120 days. If you don't have APs, it expires at the end of your tickets.

I don't know for sure how DAS registration will work this year for the parties. Last year, I saw some reports that people needed to re-register for the party because it was a different ticket. Some had ONLY party tickets, so needed to register since they were not previously registered.

Guests can arrive for the party starting at 4pm.
According to reports from last year, DAS Return Times were available in My Disney Experience app until the park closed to other guests at 6pm. It was not available during the 1 hour time between park closing at 6pm and the party starting at 7, but guests could make DAS Return Times by going to the attraction they wanted. Once the party started, guests were again able to make DAS Return Times in the app.

I applied May 18th for our trip June 16-22. We also had 2 day tickets for July 13-14. The July trip should have fallen under the 30 day rule (old rules), but the CM made our DAS expire June 27th and said we would have to reapply for the second trip, so I definitely think you will have to reapply.

My daughter should still qualify (fingers crossed) but I think he did this because we are a party of 5.

I’m so confused. We have had more than one cm at guest relations tell us that our son’s das was good for 120 days without any mention of needing to be an AP for this to be the case even though the website seems to imply differently.

What kind of ticket does your son have? There does seem to be a lot of confusion, I'm not sure if it's poor training or too much inaccurate internet chatter, or just not explaining clearly. The website indicates:

So to try to clarify...
  1. length of ticket -- this applies to most guests, those with regular date-based tickets
  2. up to 120 days -- this applies to guests with non-date-based tickets which are valid for a period of time; some possible tickets that might have 120 days:
  • certain FL Resident tickets that allow use over a longer period of time
  • military tickets
  • convention tickets
  • probably old non-expire tickets as well as APs

Our experience with special event tickets when DAS was attached to the AP.

When the special event starts during g the crossover times, you will need to go to the umbrella and they can add DAS to the special event ticket.

With the new rules in place, do not know how they are going to do this with it being remote. Will they have the DAS team online available? Unknown.

I presume it can be done online in advance, much like any other ticket.

We are not DAS, but this seemed the best thread for this. Move if necessary, please. We will have cane chairs (they are awesome, just received them) and plan on sitting on a curb to wait and rest while waiting for the parade etc. Can we sit on the curb with them and then stand there to watch when the parade comes? Or will we be kicked off? (note, we will not sit where it is designated DAS/wheelchair etc areas) I am sure we'll have tired hips/knee and sitting for a while before the entertainment will be so welcome!

There are mixed reports on people not being allowed into the parks with cane chairs. Although allowed on their list of items (and there appear to be some plan Disney posts explicitly saying they are ok), there was at least one poster on WDW Magic Forums who indicated that security told them they couldn’t bring it into the park pursuant to the “no folding chairs” rule. YMMV.

While true they technically were not allowed in the past, since the DAS changes were announced cane chairs ARE specifically mentioned as an acceptable mobility device in the parks:

@Willows909 I haven't read any reports either way about guests using cane chairs while waiting for a parade. One thing I will suggest is that if you are seated while waiting and others fill in standing behind you, they may not be happy if you decide to stand once the parade starts.

Thank you so much for this! I will definitely take the standing thing into consideration! One of us can stand and then just take turns for sure on the sitting part...and letting people know. I think we will be okay. Just wanted input and appreciate it! My knees don't like me much, lol. And my daughter has a back that doesn't like her...lol. So excited for Disney! Haven't been since 2015 and daughter since 2011. Lots has changed. So regular theme park visitors not only DAS are allowed to use them, correct?
