Our first day at Disneyland is an Extra Morning Magic Day. The park opens at 7 a.m. We are 2 parents and 4 kids and will get DAS for one of the kids. Any advice or unique considerations when picking up during Extra Morning Magic (when to get there, is guest relations open, etc)?

You can also usually get a DAS at any of the kiosks around the park. This is dependent on if they have the correct device and sometimes the CM's discretion, but most of the time they can and will.

Lately, CMs have been sending guests requesting a DAS to City Hall in DL and to Chamber of Commerce in DCA. This is for first time requests and for renewals. (Not sure why this is happening for renewals, but I've seen it happen and experienced it myself more than once. The process goes noticeably quicker at CH and CoC, so maybe it has to do with the wifi reception.) Since the OP will be at DL for Magic Morning (OP: it's just called Magic Morning at DL), it would be safer to go straight to City Hall since it's so close to the entrance. This will save the OP a possibly fruitless trek all the way to the closest kiosk and back to City Hall.
OP: don't worry if it looks like there is a line at City Hall -- CMs will be going down the line culling out guests who only want a map or a birthday button. Just tell the CMs that you need a DAS and they'll take care of you.

Interesting, when I renewed mine a couple months ago it wasn't an issue, but good to know.

Thanks for this and thank you everyone for all this info!

No, they are actually telling guests who are renewing that they should go to the kiosks. We were sent to a kiosk a couple weeks ago when we were in line at City Hall. A CM was asking everyone what they needed and sending DAS renewals to the kiosks, probably to cut down the line. At the kiosk, I asked if we could just renew at the kiosks next time and they said "Absolutely...any kiosk can issue a new DAS or renew one."

I wonder if this is dependent on wifi and tablet issues at the time (and on how long the lines are at City Hall and at Chamber of Commerce). I've had to convince CMs at the kiosks to renew my DAS there instead of sending me to CH or CoC and I've seen CMs at kiosks send guests requesting a new DAS to CC and to CoC without any discussion. This has happened more than once, even recently. It may just be a "day of" issue, dependent on how the technology is working at the time. Regardless, it is always possible to get a new DAS or to renew at CH and at CoC (lines are usually a bit shorter at CoC). If a CM tries to send you someplace else, you can request not to move if it would be too tiring or difficult for you at that time. (For example, if the a/c at CH or at CoC really makes a difference to you, you can certainly request to get your DAS there.)

I really think this boils down to the fact that not all the CMs are on the same page, and since they all rotate around between the kiosks and the City Hall/CoC location, you just get some CMs who give out bad info. We have had the DAS continuously since 2015 and have been told different things about renewing and obtaining new ones and where we can do that. I have been told if you are renewing within a few days of it expiring, you can do it at a kiosk. Then, more recently, a CM at a kiosk told me "we have no way to see when it expired, it just shows as either active or not when we scan the ticket...we can't tell you when it will expire either if you forgot when you obtained it." I have been sent back to CoC when I tried to get a DAS return time at a kiosk and they discovered it was expired. When I got to CoC, I was told, "oh, they could have done this at the kiosk." And on and on.

Chalk it up to more inconsistent training/management.
