I am working on our touring plans for an August 2015 trip and wanted to see what advice or help can be offered on how to best use a DAS pass along with a touring plan.

:welcome: I'm going to move this thread from the disABILITIES Community Board to the main disABILITIES Forum where it will get a lot more views for trip-planning.

The WDW - Disability Access Service Card thread might be helpful for you. (or if you are going to the California parks, there is a similar thread for DL & DCA).

From our experience, we use a touring plan loosely to know where it is likely to be least crowded. You'll also want to be sure and schedule your FP+ for each day.

Enjoy your vacation!

Disney has to be reasonable to all its guests of all ages with all degrees of ability/disability.
The number of HP spaces is regulated by statute or law, in relation to the total number of parking spaces.
Fat people from Texas with HP placards have been determined by that state's DMV to be qualified for/in need of HP spaces. The purpose of such spaces is not for convenience or even proximity, but to get the disabled person out of the flow of traffic as quickly and safely as possible.
Room requests are never guaranteed. Kudos to the CM who was able to put you in even better-located rooms.

Not only ataare the number of handicap spaces specified by law by percentage of the total number of parking spaces and a count of the number of accessible rooms, so are the following:
non handicap spaces (by number, not percentage)
Oversize Vehicles

And for all new construction (such as Art of Animation):
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
hybrid Vehicle/Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle spaces
Carpool/Vanpool Spaces

The law also specifies requirements for the locations of the spaces, which is similar to the requirements for the placement of Handicap spaces (except for oversized vehicles)

These items all effect the amount of space available for handicap parking, which in turn affects the number of spaces that can be put in.

When staying onsite, we try to take advantage of morning EMH, especially for MK. We get a lot accomplished in that first hour, then start using the DAS, alternating with pre-scheduled FP+, usually leaving the park by late morning when crowds start to build. When we're not staying onsite, we choose a park that doesn't have EMH and arrive for rope drop to take advantage of low crowds. On those days, we usually start using the DAS right away.
Either way, our touring plan is pretty loose. We just try to schedule the FP+ attractions throughout the park and get DAS return times for nearby attractions as we move around the park, filling in any extra time with attractions that have a short wait if we happen to be in the area.

ADA and DMV are entirely different entities. ADA has no part in HP permitting; most states seem to have similar conditions http://www.dmv.org/tx-texas/disabled-drivers.php for eligibility.

Now, the ADA does prohibit the kind of discrimination you're suggesting. We get that Charlie's life, and yours, aren't easy. You have no idea what anyone else with an HP permit is dealing with.

Please remember here on the disABILITIES Forum we try to be understanding and accepting of all people with various disabilities, regardless of severity or cause. We honestly do not know personal circumstances, and all may not be as it appears to an outsider.

So let's bring this back to the original topic...

We used very structured customized touring plans (from the website that produces customized ones as well as general ones by category like Seniors, Families with Young Children, etc.). The customized option allows you to input your FP+ times, meal times, even things like the Frozen events, etc. We used my DAS for longer waits that I didn't have a FP for. It worked beautifully. Using a touring plan allows you to get twice as much done as you would get done by wandering around saying, "What do you want to do now?" which is how we used to do it. It drove me crazy, so I stopped doing it that way. The nominal fee for that website has paid for itself many times over. I think it's ok to post it here (I'm 99% sure I've read that several times over the years, but I seem to have old lady brain today), so in case it's not, it's the one named just like you'd think it would be for a site about touring plans.

JenniBugInPink thanks, that is actually the site i used to create our very detailed touring plans. I was just trying to figure out the best way to use the DAS with that. I like your idea, thanks so much

I use that site as well and find that I make a plan that I like, putting in FPP that I might want. We then pick DAS rides based on "likes" and wait times. Alternating FPP and DAS picks. The choices are unique to everyone's situation and it is difficult to create a firm plan.

We used touring plans last year. It was hard merging my DAS pass plans--I think I added them as extra Fastpasses to my schedule, so it would not allow a lot of wait time. I also made notes on the items reminding me to get the DAS passes. I always tried to get a new DAS pass time as soon as we used one, especially before lunch. Touring plans was a help, especially for our first trip with our family, but we never stuck to the plans into the afternoon. We would end up riding favorites again and missing things I had planned to see but the others were not as interested in. That said, we will likely use it again for our next trip.

Yes, it's OK to post.
The 2 people use are www.touringplans.com and www.easywdw.com

Some people make detailed touring plans using one of those sites, as several posters mentioned. Other people use them more for a general guide to know which park is likely to be least busy and where the spots with shorter wait times are so you can take advantage of them. That's what we do.
